Birthday Card Blast

Ok team, I could use some help with a different kind of request. No computing involved. I know it is short notice for snail mail, but....

July 8th is my sister Kristin's 38th birthday. I am organizing a Birthday Card Blast for her. Last August, she was diagnosed with acute myoblastic leukemia and was hospitalized for three months while receiving chemo and a stem cell transplant. After two months of doing well at home, even going back to work, in February she developed severe GVHD (a reaction to a stem cell transplant where my stem cells are now attacking her organs - like reverse organ transplant rejection), and has been in the hospital, bedridden and unable to eat or swallow, ever since.

Anyway, a birthday card would be wonderful way to let her know that there are many people in the world rooting for her. Her address is: Kristin Sonntag c/o Prentice Women's Hospital, Room 1594, 250 E. Superior, Chicago, Illinois, 60610. She is in isolation, so she can only have silk flowers and foil balloons, but cards, even a postcard, would be great. She has a great sense of humor, so cards do not need to be serious! In fact, upbeat cards would be great. If you just mention that you are a friend of mine and wish her well, it would very much brighten her day and make her feel less isolated. She has been too weak to use her computer so this will be a surprise.

If snail mail won't work, how about sending her an e-card? Her email address is k_s_sonntag "the at sign" yahoo.com. She'd probably get a kick knowing which state or country the e-card is from as well.

Thanks, all. We are really hoping that outside motivation will turn into self-motivation. Others want her to get well so she will want to get well and therefore have a better chance of fighting the GvHD. If you can't afford a card and stamp or can't get it mailed in time, a prayer will suffice.

Filling out the card, now. I did manage to squeeze an extra "n" in between "n t" on the envelope address. Hopefully, sending it out tomorrow from Arkansas will get it to Chicago by Monday.

My wife and I visited Kristin this morning. Now that they have her meds figured out so that she isn't half in the bag all the time, she'll be able to read all the cards, too!

@Slicker: I had sent an eCard to the email address you provided (i hope). I got an email from them today saying:

The ecard you sent to Kristin Sonntag [k_s_sonntag@yahoo.com] on 07-Jul-2013 hasn't been viewed yet, even though we sent a reminder to k_s_sonntag@yahoo.com

Our research shows that the most common reason for the receiver not getting the ecard, is a typo in the email address.
Please double check to see that the email address is valid.

So sorry to hear of your loss, to think of either of my brothers going before me...makes me shudder inside to think of it. As you said, at least her suffering is finished, we can all be thankful for that. We will all be thinking of you going through this, wishing you love and strength.
