Well 7/8" = 0.875" so it'd be .875 caliber. Of course you'd want the "cannon ball" to be a hair smaller than the bore so maybe 870 or 865 at the least. Go too small and you lose too much velocity. Not sure what you could find in that size but shooter marbles should be pretty close :p

.601 is the biggest ball i can find. do you know where i can get close to .860 -.865? anyone? duh ok shooter marbles i found 13/16 so thats 1/16 smaller should be ok for starters wouldnt these disintegrate?

If it is just a signal cannon, why would you use any ammunition at all? Powder and wadding are all that would be needed, just like the blanks used for starter pistols, etc. That being said, you could use a 10 gauge shotgun barrel and load it with blanks (which can be purchased all ready to fire). A 10 gauge barrel is 0.78" in diameter or 780 caliber. If you really want to shoot at a target, you could use a slug barrel. But, do NOT try to shoot slugs with a normal shotgun barrel or it could explode.

Greg, what may disintegrate is the barrel of the signal/starter cannon!! They aren't designed for high pressure ... they are normally open ended letting the charge blow out unobstructed. If you put a ball into it there will be a tremendous pressure spike that they aren't intended to have.

And that's probably why they are legal to own.

Me thinks someone is over compensating...big time. If the guy in front moves his hand too much back and forth, that rod could go off.

There are a lot of big guns. Some more handy than others.

A really big, magnum style, handgun prop. Purely aesthetic, no moving parts. The rest was scratch built from plywood, plastic and a lot of car body filler.
