We're about dead even in the KWh Fire$torm. The thing about Duke Energy, they love the extra profits so they never try to embarrass me into being more efficient. They are content to raise my Easy Payment Plan every year.

Hmmm, guess my 1,731 here at home for roughly that same period doesn't looks so bad then. My guess is those "Efficient Neighbors" of yours are the houses that are boarded up and with a "Foreclosed" sign on them. :))

I know that feeling things aren't different around here.

I keep expecting the cops to break into my house, assuming I am growing pot, because I use so much more power than my neighbors.

Do cops still do that? I didn't think they cared about pot anymore. Aren't they more into monitoring websites for bullying, now-a-days?

I am 'lucky'! My neighbors use twice what yours do, but I use 3X more than the neighbors do! :p

Actually, that's how they know you're not growing pot. You would have no electric bill then. Pot growers steal electricity by bypassing the meter. Though, the thermal detectors might change their mind.

Haha...Yeah, so how they work it here is by tiers. Everyone starts out at Tier 1, and gets X KWatts to burn at the base price. If you use more than that X KW hours, you get bumped into Tier 2, where the rate gets increased per every extra KW you used that "They" deem is above average use. They try to discourage your use by charging more...
...and then if you use what they consider to be an extremely excessive amount of KW hours, they bump you to Tier 3, where the price goes up even more per KW hour they deemed in excess of Tier 2 usage!

For some reason they always think I belong in Tier 3. :(

It's the only commodity that I've ever purchased where I didn't get a discounted rate for purchasing in bulk - but rather I got charged MORE per unit I purchased! :p
I'll give you one reason for that: "They" have made a NO competition allowed game. Plain and simple there is no free market effect going on - what you see is a government controlled monopoly in action. Ouch!
...welcome to SoCal.

I can't wait to go solar, and tell So Cal Edi$on to get f'd. Just not sure I'm going to be in my house forever or move. I'm on a time-of use plan where my rates drop at night. When it's not team-challenge time, I just have BOINC run my GPUs during nighttime off-peak hours. I run my appliances on timer between midnight and 6am, and charge my car (electric) during that time. Time of use is pretty cool.

If we all stopped crunching, they would have to shut down at least one power plant in the country. So, think about how many utility employees jobs we are saving by crunching!
