*Statistics by brand based on a minimum sample of 500 sales, though it is usually well over 10,000 sales.
*Statistics by specific model based on a minimum of 100 sales, though it is usually well over 500 sales.
*The reporting retailer(s) are kept anonymous.

* The (against) notes are to compare what the RMA percentage was on the last report. This way you can see if a brand is trending better or worse.

And i screwed up the title...shoulda say RMA rates :p

So, if it says Corsair, run away screaming.

But, for SSD's, how can OCZ end up on the "best" list when they've littered the Worst list with all their various models? Are there *only* 6 Players for SSD's? :))

The vast majority of OCZ SSDs sold are the Vertex series, which are actually pretty good. They drastically lessen OCZ's overall RMA rate, thogh they are still the worst of the best with 6.64% average of all OCZ SSDs being RMA'd.

Edit: The data is a bit incomplete, such as EVGA being missing from the GPU list. All that means is the reporting retailers either don't carry those brands, or they sold fewer than 500 units of those brands so the data was disqualified as not being a large enough sample to be accurate.

I agree with that only a tad. Their RAM QC was as bad if not worse then their SSD QC. The truth is their CEO was cutting way too many corners just to gain market share, but ended up burning the candle at both ends. When he finally wanted to go high end with their home grown Barefoot 3 controller (Link (http://www.thessdreview.com/daily-news/latest-buzz/ocz-to-bring-barefoot-3-controller-to-market-as-seagate-acquisition-looms-ahead/)) it was too late.

Some interesting info out on hard drives (and only hard drives). Here's a graph showing how many drives are still working 3 years into their lives. The testing was done using over 28,500 hard drives from all 3 brands of various capacities.

Just curious if your RMA Rates for RAM includes "Edge Memory." I have a vendor trying to sell me some of that RAM and saying he's had better RMA rates with Edge than Kingston...

John P. Myers
02-04-14, 08:41 PM
I had never heard of them until just now lol

I looked them up though. Newegg doesn't even carry them except through a marketplace seller. They appear to be an OEM-type supplier (like SK-Hynix) with the majority of their sales through venders, like you're saying, and appear to only carry the very most basic design and speeds. Since they're rarely sold retail, there's no RMA data for them.

Comparing the price of EDGE to G.Skill from newegg marketplace, cdw, amazon, provantage, etc., it seems EDGE costs about 50% more for the exact same thing, with worse latency.

In other words, stand clear of the Edge.....

Thanks JPM. But no "Worst" Hard drives?

None of them are really all that bad. The worst of them is a 3TB Toshiba DT01ACA300 at 3.75%. The best are:

- 0.00% WD Black WD2002FAEX 2TB
- 0.00% Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB
- 0.00% WD Red WD40EFRX 4TB

Full list:
2TB:

- 2.64% WD Green WD20EARX
- 2.15% Toshiba DT01ACA200
- 1.46% WD Green WD20EZRX
- 1.05% WD Red WD20EFRX

- 0.95% WD AV-GP WD2EURS
- 0.85% WD RE WD2000FYYZ
- 0.72% Seagate Enterprise Value ST2000NC001
- 0.49% Seagate Surveillance ST2000VX000
- 0.00% WD Black WD2002FAEX
- 0.00% Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000

3TB:

- 3.75% Toshiba DT01ACA300
- 1.53% WD Green WD30EZRX
- 1.51% Seagate NAS HDD ST3000VN000
- 1.44% WD Red WD30EFRX
- 1.36% Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001

4TB:

- 3.08% WD RE WD4000FYYZ
- 2.54% Black WD4001FAEX WD
- 1.44% Seagate NAS HDD ST4000VN000
- 0.66% Seagate Desktop HDD.15 ST4000DM000
- 0.26% Hitachi Deskstar 7K4000 H3IK40003272SE
- 0.00% WD Red WD40EFRX

I don't really like to say which is worst based on these percentages since a large amount of HDD RMA's would be due to shipping. HDDs are fragile and sometimes delivery services toss it around anyway. And sometimes whoever you bought it from packaged it cheaply (Newegg used to be notorious for failing to package HDDs properly and ended up having to accept *alot* of RMAs because of it).

Thanks again JPM. Minor differences percentage-wise, but still enough to help me shy away from some makes/models regardless.

Thanks JPM! I guess EVGA is stingy with their data? I've been buying their PSUs and GPUs... no trouble yet!

I've never had anything from EVGA fail either. I still have one of their GTX 580s crunching away.

Just remember on the hard drives, they most often fail after the RMA period has expired. Please click the link above to see how drives perform over time. Results are from 49,056 HDDs used in a data center.
