Hi welcome to the forums and the team!!

While I can't see your link, it depends on the project. It depends on your wingmate if you have one. What most BOINC projects do to avoid errors and viruses is to have two different people compute the same work unit and validate the results to each other. For instance let's take a look at an individual work unit. If you go to the project's website and click on your tasks, sort by "Pending"

You can then click on an individual work unit and see the status of the wingman. Some get aborted, some get errored out, others just take time. If you're on a hot rod i7 overclocked, you'll get your work unit done in no time, but if your wingmate is on a 2003 vintage Pentium 4, you're going to wait a while for validation. :) Some projects are notorious for long validations, like SETI@Home. You'll get your credit eventually.

If the application requires a quorum of 2 or more, then two (or more) people have to finish it successfully so the results can be compared before credit will be granted. Technically, when it says "pending validation" it has already validated and is not considered an error (yet). If someone else's results match yours, you both get credit. If they don't, it gets sent to another person and if that results matches, then the two that match get credits and the third does not as it is an error.

In addition to it not matching, sometimes it will have to be sent to a third person if the wingman aborts the work unit, doesn't finish it before the deadline, resets/disconnects from the project, etc.

Some projects require a quorum of 2 only until your computer has proven that the results it returns are good. After that, it may validate immediately upon return. Some other apps (e.g. solo_collatz) have built-in validation (e.g. CPU double checks the work reported by the GPU tasks) so no wingman is required.
