So WCG just released a bunch of BETA tasks for android only. That got me thinking, "What if I wanted to get more of those tasks than my single GS3 can pull down?" Is there a way to build an android VM, just like we do with linux or windows VMs, using something like vbox?

Google is your friend. I think I may have to try this out. :)

Yeah, google is good if you know exactly what you are looking for. But for something this broad, I thought I would start here to see if any have experience with this first. Checking out the link now.

I can down load it just fine. I'll put it on dropbox. Give it time to upload.

My problem: I try to boot from the image, and it keeps giving me kernel panic in the VM.

I only had to enter one extra one before it gave me one that was actually readable...

Android x86 works well in a VM, but it isn't an ARM emulator. On the up side, it uses your CPU natively. On the down side, if the project only has ARM apps for Android, it won't work.

There are several free Android ARM emulators available. The one that comes with the Android SDK is the hardest to use (download and install apps manually) but it is the truest emulator. Some of the others are known to freeze or crash at times. The ARM emulators are not very fast. You will find you lose a lot of credits due to emulation. But, if you need a milestone....

WuProp hours are actually easier if a task takes longer. :))

Almost feels like something DA would have planned out...

Yeah, I am learning that the project that put this idea in my head (WCG) doesn't have an x86 android app. And I haven't found one yet. Still looking.

Ah well. It was a fun experiment. I know I can do this if needed in the future.
