ok so i have a decent idea of what i want but ive been keeping up on the newer pc stuff so i figured id ask what u guys think about the system i was looking at

to start i just need a lil more performance from what my work pc gives
work pc is a AMD A8-3800 radeon 6620g intergrated gfx,6gb of ram 64 bit windows 7
this computer just about plays all the games i do play on just a tick below ultra settings, and does about 10x the amount of seti work in a day then my 2.8 celron can
i figure i want just a lil more power for my home pc at a reasonable cost so ive been eyeballing this setup
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-A8-6600K-FM2-CPU-APU-2GB-DDR3-RAM-MSI-FM2-A55M-E33-HDMI-GIGABIT-Motherboard-/121269871753?pt=US_Motherboard_CPU_Combos&hash=item1c3c3f6489&afsrc=1
radeon 8570d intergradded gfx , i would upgrade the system to 8 gb of ram

just wondering if its a decent combo for the price or can i get something better then that for the same amount of money, and also just checking to see if it would be a decent boost above my work system

Hi Dave,
Sorry if I'm being dense here - but are you wanting to upgrade the PC you have now, or build a complete new one? Also, what is your target budget - that will really help with the accuracy of our suggestions! :)

build a new home pc , i need something just a lil more powerfull then my work pc to replace the dell dimension 3000 i currently have at home
id like to spend right around 200$'s but can spend about 325 if needed

i have plenty of towers, psu's etc so all i really need to buy is a mb/cpu/ram and video card if it doesnt have some decent onboard

i was also looking at these combos

but would add the expense of a addon gfx card

i dont quite think i needed to get that one but while i was spending money i might as well spring for the best i could get within what i wanted to spend

i did dig threw my closet and found out i have 2 more identical dell 3000's, what i need is a few more of those and build a lil cluster, though it prolly wouldnt be worth it to build a cluster with those.
building a cluster is on my todo list, i think the wife would kill me if i did it at the house though!then again i could tell her it was a dvr for the tv and she wouldnt know the difference lmao

Hi Dave,
Good deal there. Glad you got the more powerful one, because the AMD "all in one" CPUs there are a little lacking on the low end when it comes to crunching power, so I'm honestly glad you stepped it up to the 7850K. I didn't want to say anything though because I know all too well about blowing the budget and figured better to keep my mouth SHUT on that. ;) At any rate, you'll be a lot happier with the CPU you ended up with, I think. :D

Happy crunching!

i hope so my work pc is the amd a8-3800 and it takes about 4 hours per seti wu, i have reserved the gpu for crunching collatz instead , credit is much higher and i can do one wu every 24 mins, cpu units on collatz take forever though and give the same credit as the gpu units , so seti gets the cpu and collatz the gpu

looking foward to seeing how much an improvement the new pc will be over my work one , either way ill be happy cause that damn dell is way to slow for anything i do at home , and the graphics card is horrible being a pci geforce 6200. i did get a zotac 410 though that im going to stick in and see how that does

edit

ok is that all in one 4 core with 2 gpu cores or is it 4+8 amd site says 4+8 but the seller's ad said 4+2

If it finishes in < 30 minutes, it gets less credit on Collatz. So, if crunching the micro wUs, you may want to switch to the mini WUs whicih will take about 8 hours and give "bonus" credit for not overworking the server with small WUs.

the mini's are taking 29mins 24 seconds
heres the difference in what im getting between a mini cpu wu and mini gpu wu
iirc the cpu wu took 8 hours to do and gave me 962 credit , the mini gpu one too like 29 mins and gave me 753 credit

Right, so your Mini GPU WU is what Slicker is referring to. You need to try and not run the Mini GPU WUs, and get some longer ones in your pipeline, and your credits per hour will go up. ;)

ahh ok i thought he meant run the mini's not the micros , which it wont even give me micros , i just changed my prefrences and ill abort the mini's i do have and see if it makes a difference

credit is now 1,800 for 42 mins worth of work , but now it looks like the rest they gave me are 5 hours long each

ok the solos worked out to 2 a day at 14k each so 28k total , i swapped back to the mini's as for some reason they are now taking 30 mins and 3 seconds each thats roughly 46 a day averaging just over 900 credits each .
so about 41,500 credits give or take 2k each day doing the minis

if i could get the 42 minute solos i could prolly do about 80k a day but all the solos its giving me are now 12-13 hours each
