Right now I'm down to one hobby, I play World of Warcraft. I used to do photography, but my son took all my equipment to high school for a class and brought back a bag of parts... I just haven't replaced anything yet. :(

Sounds a tad ruff there. How long do you think it will take to get a smooth idle on that puppy?

dave c
06-01-14, 01:49 AM
had a bad air temp sensor it was reading negative 60* so the ecm was commanding a ton of extra fuel , i went home grabbed my laptop fixed the sensor and took some fuel out its starting to smooth out but i have alot of tunning to do still
the engine has 120 pound per hour injectors in it so its going to be very hard to get a good clean idle

i hhave a new video im uploading now ill post it when youtube finishes encoding it

dave c

getting better , but might not be able to run the 120# injectors on gas in this thing , ill see what happens as i get some more tuning done

i know some of u guys said u ride dirtbikes and atv's etc so yall should get a kick out of my next project i just picked up

1986 suzuki dr200
the plan is to build something i could potentially really hurt myself with

i ordered up a carb to evi conversion kit that is turbo ready , and laptop programable
i also ordered up an ihi rbh31 turbo charger good for 100 hp

yup im turbocharging the bike , while im at it im going to give it a cool looking flat black frame , along with a chamelon paint job on the fairings
i have plans to extend the rear swingarm 6-12 inches but im going to hold off till i get the bike together and ride it first and see how hard is is to keep the front end down with the stock swing arm

ill get some pics up in a lil bit

Sweet. Can't wait to see your progress. Good luck.

the efi conversion kit is plug and play so that should be a cake walk ,
the hard part going to be fitting a 12v battery , and the oil system for the turbo , since the engine is air cooled im building my own oiling system for the turbo , it should still be a very easy build compared to all the turbo cars i own/owned/built
its also way cheaper then turbocharging a car
when its done ill have to learn to not be fearless on a dirtbike ,i wrecked on a honda xr200r pretty bad over the memorial day weekend

if i keep this up i wont own a single gas powered car/truck bike etc that doesnt have some form of forced induction on it

lol no thanks , gave the seat to my friend who is going to refoam and reupholster it for me, soon as i get out of work today im going to work on fully stripping the bike so i can strip the paint of the frame and prep it for paint , see if i cant replace the bushing for the kick start without tearing the case halfs apart, as u can see it has a pretty good oil leak from it , and start preping all the body parts for paint

other then that new chain and sprocket( gearing it up for a top speed of 90) are here, as is the HD clutch kit , still waiting on a new clutch cable ,efi conversion kit and the turbo kit

dave c
06-06-14, 02:20 AM
i worked on it some today, i was able to fix the original carb so i threw it back on the bike so i could start it up to be sure on the engines condition ,it wont start im just getting a whole lot of backfiring out the exhaust system, im thinking either the cdi box is bad or somehow it slipped time on the ex valve, my friend is much more familiar witht he suzukis then i am so hes going to come by and take a look at it for me tommorow.hopefully its something stupid so i dont have to tear ito the engine just yet.

other then that i did manage to get the bike cleaned up and was able to start preping the body panels for paint , ill get some pictures up later today as i left the cable for my phone at work

dave c
06-10-14, 12:30 AM
turns out the ex valve on the engine is bent and hanging open , not sure if im going to fix it or just stick a 2 stroke 650cc street bike engine i have on it . the problem witht he 2 stroke engine is i have never turbocharged anything 2stroke , and its alot different then the normal 4 stroke stuff when it comes to forced induction. might be a good chance to get into something new

on a side note is anyone here into or ever messed with 3d projection mapping

for those of u who dont know what that is heres a cool video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYnH4duXiD8

heres one on a much much larger scale

I had a Chevy Monza wagon that wouldn't shift into or out of park, but I knew what the problem was: It all started while loading a '41 Chevy pickup onto a dual axle trailer hitched up to the Monza. The pickup didn't have any brakes and also wasn't running, so we set up some blocks on the trailer with the trailer downhill of the barn where the truck was parked. We aired up the tires and rolled the truck downhill and onto the trailer. While the blocks did stop it, both the car and trailer skidded forward about 3 feet which somehow stretched the cable going from the shifter to the transmission. I could get it into gear but it wouldn't go back into park until I swapped out the cable. Only a few weeks later, one of the pistons blew on the Monza. I guess that little six just wasn't made to pull 3 tons for a hundred miles.

the shifter cable is the issue , unfortunatly oem cables are no longer available, last summe i installed a aftermarket cable after my oem cable snapped. the replacement cables are crap and never adjust right either u have issues with park, or first gear so for the time being im going to adjust it so i have a good first gear and use the ebrake for parking

well i had osme bigger issues to deal with, the cam i originally speced out for the engine had to agressive of a cam lobe on it for todays new oils and i ended up eating a lobe of the cam.
over the past few days we pulled the engine cleaned it out and installed a camshaft that was much tamer that i had laying around

if i wasnt on his kawasaki 250 id have done it but thats a few thousand dollar motorcross bike. and everytime i take it out im scared of breaking/damaging it. were in the middle of hopping up some old honda xr200r's he has , thats what i normally ride (we doing ported head, headers , carb work, overbore, sprockets, and cams on both of them , when those are done im thinking were going to hit the motor cross track with them

some progress tonight on the turbo dirtbike, since i wouldnt get it done in time to ride it before snow starts falling we went ahead and dropped the engine out , and im glad we did as u will see in the pics below
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j39/lethalrides2k3/IMAG1168_zps377d1e9b.jpg
then we pulled the head and cyl ( motor is going to get a custom camshaft from delta cams )
then we started to tear into the engine case as i have to split the case to fix the transmission , the reason im happy i decided to do this now is the clutch disks were fried and i had no idea, wouldnt have been good once i put some power to it with the turbo
the clutch material was actually breaking apart in my fingers, u can see how black they are in the pictures

of course im going to port the head while its off, after looking at the rod in this engine i think im going to stick with just eough boost to bring the hp to around 40 instead of the original 60+ i was going to try for

just working on the dirtbikes, trying to spend as lil money as i can have to have some surgery soon so saving all the money i can
the camera made it look a little darker then it actually was u really didnt need ur headlights yet , that and i had an underdrive pulley on the crank pulley so my alternator wouldnt turn fast enough when cruising at low speeds, it would drop to only 30 amps at around 2,000 rpm, my fuel pumps and 2 cooling fans alone pull way more then that. ive since swaped a standard crank pulley on and an over drive pulley on the alt so now i get the full 120 amps at anything above 2,000 ish rpms , and 75 amps at idle.
cars parked up in the barn at the farm for the winter, might still get sold but things are looking better so i prolly have it this spring time

got some more work done , mainly i got the transmission fixed and it didnt cost me a dime.
somone over the years has rebuilt the bike and when the reassembled it they put on of the gears on the trans input shaft on backwards , this would cause it to be in 2 gears at once and lock the shafts solid

i need to order up a flywheel puller, timing chain, clutch kit, and piston rings for it , but next weekend i should get the bottom half of the engine back together

still not 100% sure that was the whole issue as it looks like the shift drum was missing a spring/spacer to keep it in the right location in the case .
so i really wont know if its fixed till i get the lower half of the case back together and can test it that way , either way it still didnt cost me anything to fix if it needs the spacer i think it does i can machine one myself for nothing

Are sure it's hardware and not software? Maybe a glitch in the code or maybe it's configured for a different engine?

ive had nothing but issues witht he air temp sensor since ive started been building this car every now and then it will flake out and read really cold or really hot. i think something on the circut board of the ecm is going bad cause the sensor in it is brand new
just need to look threw that build manual for the ecm and start checking components on the air temp sensor circuit , if its the sensor its 13$'s to replace , if its a resistor or something on the board its practically only a few pennys to fix . i pulled the ecm out of the car today and got it on the bench but havent goten any further , not like it matters i cant get any parts till monday/tuesday for it anyways

if all that checks out i can actually adjust how much control the air temp sensor has over the fuel mixture in the tunning software i have the stock temp curve in it now but i shoudl prolly dbl check that table and make sure none of the data is corrupted

dave c
10-13-14, 07:31 PM
ive bandaided it for now , by disabling feedback from the air temp sensor . that will alow me to drive it around as long as i stay out of boost , i think i eed to check the signla wire from the sensor back to the ecm and make sure it didnt get frayed and isnt grounding out on something. also need remove the thread sealant that comes on the sensor as ive read reports of it being to much on the threads causing intermitant ground issues witht he sensor, which could also cause my current fueling issues

spent my saturday tearing down a th350c transmission to steal the output shaft and tailhousing out of it for the th350 im building for the car
the supposedly badass th400 i have in the car now has been nothing but issues since i got it back form the builder, and after having it in an out of the car to go back to the builder im just washing my hands of it
ill have to back the boost off a bit as the th350 isnt strong enough to handle full power from the engine but im ok with that for now till i can find a well built 4l80e to put in the car

yes i will , im also adding a lightweight vega sunshell to the th350 so that will drop a bunch of rotational weight, in the end the car will have a 4l80e 4 speed but its not something i can build myself so im putting that of ffor a while till i get over getting screwed on that th400

Not just G5. That chassis shipped with Intel too.

i happened to get my hands on a hayabusa engine i may try to shoe horn it into the suzuki frame or we have an old quad frame i will cutup and put it on that

How is this for the most lame ever? I noticed my right rear tire was damn low when I got into my Yukon XL leaving work. I stopped at the gas station, to put in air. Noticed a nail in the tire. When I got home, I was about to crawl under the truck to throw down some cardboard, lower the spare, then do the swap, etc. I said fuck it, and called AAA. They arrived in under an hour, did all the work I was going to do, and it cost me nothing (aside from my annual fee). All this while I was on a business call. For the record, I gave the dude a twenty tip. Does that make me less of a man. I am pretty sure the answer is yes. OTOH, I am okay with that.

id have done the same thing , i cant stand stupid repairs like that , though i do carry a plug kit in every car or truck i own just incase i get something in the tire, i usually just plug it on the spot

There is such a thing as a plug kit? Geez, something else I should look for at the AutoZone up the street. Been putting off getting the piece of wire causing a slow leak in my rear driver side tire pulled and plugged because I'm so cheap I didn't want to spend the $15 to have my mechanic do it because I'd have to actually take the car in. :)

yeah they normally sell a cheap one and an exspensive one , get the one that costs more as the tools that come in it are much better quality and wont fold up like a wet noodle on ya when u try to use it ,i think the good kit is 15-20 bucks and comes with 6 plugs , if ya end up ever using them all u can buy plug refills for a few bucks

and just about finished
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j39/lethalrides2k3/IMAG0015_zpsi4wo9jfv.jpg

its a street legal 1986 honda xl250r , same thing as an xr250r but street legal, the paint is custom mixed by me , everything is painted jet gloss black and then i sprayed my own mixture of clear coat / blue pearl powder , then i hit the tank with some metal flake , and then 3 more coats of straight clear.

it still needs to be buffed out and polished but it looks amazing in the sun and actually turns a few different shades of blue depending on how u look at it
