View Full Version : Dual Quad Xeon Workstation
I'll soon lose a place to keep my Dell 7400 Workstation, probably by the end of June. I've got about $300 into it, including memory and CPU upgrades. This has been a great cruncher; it's solid on CPU projects and has two PCIx 2.0 x16 slots for GPUs. In just under a year it's earned over 115 Million in credits with various gpus. Caveats: it's a big box, is a bit on the loud side and is HEAVY.
I wish I could give this away, but unfortunately I need to recover some of the costs. On ebay these are going for $250-400 and higher. I'd like $200 plus shipping (likely to be $50+). If there are no team takers after a few weeks, I'll put it on craigslist/ebay.
Here are the specs:
Dell T7400 Precision Workstation
Dual Xeon Quad Core E5450 3.0Ghz 12MB L2 1333Mhz FSB
16Gb PC2-5300 667MHz RAM (recently purchased new)
74Gb 10k RPM SATA Western Digital HD or 250Gb SATA HD
Windows Vista Business x64
1000W PSU
I can ship with no GPU or one of the following:
AMD HD 6570 $25
AMD HD 6950 $65
Nvidia GTX 580 $100
AMD HD 7950 $125

Duke, these images seem vaguely familiar to me...
I also have some gear that is free for the taking:
Asus M2A-VM HDMI AM2+/AM2 Motherboard with BE-2350 CPU
This MOBO/CPU always had stability issues. Could be the RAM or settings, I'm not 100% sure. It would run fine as a cruncher/HTPC platform for weeks and then crash repeatedly. Maybe one of you will have better luck with it than me

Asrock K7VM2 Socket A Motherboard with Athlon XP 2400+ CPU
This pairing is pretty old. To be honest I'm not sure if it will fire up. It worked when I pulled it, but it's been in the attic for years. This seems destined for the e-recycler, but you never know!

I also have an Antec Super Lanboy case I just upgraded from. It's nice and light, looks good and I think I still have the carry strap somewhere. The only problem is that it doesn't fit the longest graphics cards.

Case went down south to E-30
Scratch me out.. 1st discussion was one sided.. Apparently I was ignored.. 2nd discussion involved the ole stare down with the look of "I don't think so"
I bought this Cooler Master Hyper T4 from Newegg last week planning to replace the noisy stock HSF on an AMD FM1 board. I guess I didn't read the fine print, because this cooler only fits on AMD mobos in one orientation - which is facing up and down in a typical tower. On Intel boards it can mount in either orientation. I ordered a 212 EVO to replace it but I'll have to pay a few bucks shipping to get this one back to Newegg. So, if anyone needs a decent, quiet CPU heatsink & fan let me know.

Edit: Decided to return this to Newegg. Bummer they don't take returns at the Memphis location anymore!

I have a Sapphire HD 6950 2Gb available. I bought it recently to work on Moo - it earns about 280,000/day there and about the same on Collatz. Should be a solid card on Milkyway, too. It can be overclocked easily, but even though it has a dual-bios I couldn't get it to unlock to 6970 shaders. Someone smarter than me might have better luck :p The fan is a little noisy at idle then quiets at load, so I think the shroud is probably the culprit - might need tightening or adjustment. I paid $80 about a month ago - I'll ship to a team member for $65.
