View Full Version : good budget pcie crunching card?
whats a good card for crunching under 100 bucks that doesnt require a whole lot of power as my psu's in the computers i have right now are kind of on the small side
i do have some free pci slots but the zotac is only putting up about 50-65k a day, seems kind of weak

Also ask yourself what you want to crunch. ATIs for the most part are better crunchers than nVidias, but for GPU Grid, it's nVidia only.
Other options are:
1. used nVidia GTX 560ti or 570 for under $100
2. used 7970 (crazy power) for ~$200 (dual 8 pins required)
Having both, I wish I had more ATIs than nVidias. :)
Good luck.
I run both 7790 and GTX 750 Ti. Both give good credits per watt, with the 7790 using a bit more power and producing more credits. But I like the 750 Ti because it doesn't require external power and does well on many projects, including GPUGrid. Good luck-

pci-e is what im looking for , i have both pci-e and pci slots open but the for 66$'s i dont think its worth it for the zotac pci gt430 when i have a pci-e open

One note of caution for reference Radeons (Any card built using ATI/AMD designed OEM layout). If you plan on overclocking, I'd strongly suggest saving up for an aftermarket cooler. Why? Because reference Radeons tend to employ the worst GPU cooling fans on the planet. I've had to replace the cooler on every reference Radeon card I have owned, and quite a few of our teammates cards. From the 4850 all the way through to the 7990. Non ref. cards are a different matter.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still an Radeon fanboy all the way back to the ATI Radeon ViVo card. They are the ONLY cards I will game on. It's just a burden ref. Radeon owners have to contend with.

ive always liked ati stuff and amd , just havent kept up with it much in the past years,i do belive my first ati card was a radeon 7k , how times have changed lol

I'd almost give my left arm for this version ---> http://www.anandtech.com/show/8084/asus-launches-rog-ares-iii-for-water-cooling-builds

i will take 2 please lmao
anyways i need to get something cheaper or hold off for a while
heres what i got going on
asus (880GM-LE FX) mother board
amd fx 8320 cpu
just purchased a new 650W psu , 2 sata 10k drives and a cooling master water cooler so i pretty much spent most of my budget
the plan is to stick the one of the zotacs gt430 pci cards in it not sure if the onboard hd 4250 will crunch
how does a r7 240 or r7 250 stack up for crunching?
worth it or just hold off and get something better?
