Challenge accepted. Here are the BeeGees before they became the symbol of disco via SNF. Before you dismiss them out of hand for what they became out of SNF, and make fun of them for the 70's "style", just listen to the song.

+1. Though you still hear they made a different kind of quality in disco (a bit hard to write that :D) than all the hype following up.

Album: Give me the night...;) Loving this one.

I love Strauss and that piece Also Sprach Zarathustra. I have it on a Direct-to-Disc Vinyl recording, Crystal Clear Records - Sonic Fireworks Volume II - Richard Morris / Atlanta Brass Ensemble - CCS-7011. Real sonic candy :D

A reason for my Kubrick-Fanboy-Being. No other director got the music to the pictures like him. I think I may know that record, it's really a piece for high-end audio. :)

Hey, back to the real world...this is sophisticated too.

Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music was just so good! They made such an impression on me as a young man, I named my first dog Roxy Music (this was back in 1995). What a sweetheart. Roxy died so suddenly from cancer in 2007. Damn. I made myself sad.

This is a picture of Halloween in 2004. Man, she had fun that day!

Funny, many years ago, I wasn't into Zeppelin at all..just knew a few of their songs..
Then, I saw a 10CD boxed set, all of their studio albums - and I figured, why not? Well...I learned a LOT that day. Learned that I had been missing out BIG time!
That tribute was AWESOME - VERY well done. You could tell that Zeppelin was proud - and impressed.

For The Smiths fans out there, here is some *LIVE*, good quality video! Live at The Derby Assembly Rooms. 07.12.1983!

A Dream within a Dream - Alan Parsons Project

"Tales of Mystery and Imagination
Edgar Allan Poe" (Narration Orson Welles)

For my own part, I have never had a thought
Which I could not set down in words
With even more distinctness that which I conceived it.
There is however a class of fancies of exquisite delicacy
Which are not thoughts and to which as yet
I have found it absolutely impossible to adapt to language.
These fancies arise in the soul,
Alas how rarely, only at epochs
Of most intense tranquillity
When the bodily and mental health are in perfection.
And those mere points of time
When the confines of the waking world
Blend with the world of dreams.
And so I captured this fancy
Where all that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

That taste
All I ever needed
All I ever wanted
Too dumb to surrender

She shakes
Like I'm on a railway
Checking me out
With someone on her shoulder

Her lamp flickers in her bedroom
She must feel as awkward
Oh,as Arizona

Now go
Stand up to a giant
Say that I'm a fighter
Too drunk to remember
Too drunk to...

Shake hands...

My face
Is laying on the pavement
Tasting something awful
I hate when that happens

She waits
Thinking that it's sexy
She must be plum crazy
I kind of think I like her
I kind of think I do...

Se Eu Não Te Amasse Tanto Assim
Ivete Sangalo

Meu coração, sem direção
Voando só por voar
Sem saber onde chegar
Sonhando em te encontrar

E as estrelas
Que hoje eu descobri
No seu olhar
As estrelas vão me guiar

Se eu não te amasse tanto assim
Talvez perdesse os sonhos
Dentro de mim
E vivesse na escuridão

Se eu não te amasse tanto assim
Talvez não visse flores
Por onde eu vim
Dentro do meu coração

Hoje eu sei, eu te amei
No vento de um temporal
Mas fui mais, muito além
Do tempo do vendaval

Nos desejos
Num beijo
Que eu jamais provei igual
E as estrelas dão um sinal

Se eu não te amasse tanto assim
Talvez perdesse os sonhos
Dentro de mim
E vivesse na escuridão

Se eu não te amasse tanto assim
Talvez não visse flores
Por onde eu vim
Dentro do meu coração

If I do not love you so much
Ivete Sangalo

My heart, with no direction
Flying only for flying
Not knowing where to go
Dreaming to meet you

And the stars
That I found today
In your eyes
Those stars will guide me

If I did not love you so much
Perhaps I lost the dreams
Inside me
And live in the darkness

If I did not love you so much
Perhaps could not see flowers
Where I come
Inside my heart

Today I know I loved you
In the wind of a thunderstorm
But I went more, far beyond
from the thunderstorm

In the desires
In a kiss
that I never tasted equal
And the stars give a sign

If I did not love you so much
Perhaps I lost the dreams
Inside me
And live in the darkness

If I did not love you so much
Perhaps could not see flowers
Where I come
Inside my heart

Simple Plan - Welcome to My Life

Do you ever feel like breaking down?
Do you ever feel out of place,
Like somehow you just don't belong
And no one understands you?
Do you ever wanna run away?
Do you lock yourself in your room
With the radio on turned up so loud
That no one hears you're screaming?

No, you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
You don't know what it's like
To be like me

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No, you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life

Do you wanna be somebody else?
Are you sick of feeling so left out?
Are you desperate to find something more
Before your life is over?
Are you stuck inside a world you hate?
Are you sick of everyone around?
With their big fake smiles and stupid lies
While deep inside you're bleeding

No, you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
You don't know what it's like
To be like me

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life

No one ever lied straight to your face
And no one ever stabbed you in the back
You might think I'm happy but I'm not gonna be okay
Everybody always gave you what you wanted
You never had to work it was always there
You don't know what it's like, what it's like

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No, you don't know what it's like (What it's like)

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No, you don't know what it's like

Van Morrison - Some One Like You
From his 1987 album Poetic Champions Compose.
Lyrics.
I've been searching a long time
For someone exactly like you
I've been traveling all around the world
Waiting for you to come through
Someone like you
Make it all worth while
Someone like you
Keep me satisfied.
Someone exactly like you
I've been travellin' a hard road
Baby lookin' for someone exactly like you
I've been carryin' my heavy load
Waiting for the light to come shining through
Someone like you
Make it all worth while
Someone like you
Make me satisfied
Someone exactly like you
I've been doin' some soul searching
To find out where you're at
I've been up and down the highway
In all kinds of foreign lands
Someone like you
Make it all worth while
Someone like you
Keep me satisfied
Someone exactly like you
I've been all around the world
Marching to the beat of a different drum
But just lately I have realized
Baby the best is yet to come
Someone like you
Make it all worth while
Someone like you
Keep me satisfied
Someone exactly like you
Someone exactly like you
Someone exactly like you
Best is yet to come
Ohhhhh the best is yet to come
Someone exactly like you

Pedra Filosofal

Eles não sabem que o sonho

é uma constante da vida

tão concreta e definida

como outra coisa qualquer,

como esta pedra cinzenta

em que me sento e descanso,

como este ribeiro manso

em serenos sobressaltos,

como estes pinheiros altos

que em verde e oiro se agitam,

como estas aves que gritam

em bebedeiras de azul.

eles não sabem que o sonho

é vinho, é espuma, é fermento,

bichinho álacre e sedento,

de focinho pontiagudo,

que fossa através de tudo

num perpétuo movimento.

Eles não sabem que o sonho

é tela, é cor, é pincel,

base, fuste, capitel,

arco em ogiva, vitral,

pináculo de catedral,

contraponto, sinfonia,

máscara grega, magia,

que é retorta de alquimista,

mapa do mundo distante,

rosa-dos-ventos, Infante,

caravela quinhentista,

que é cabo da Boa Esperança,

ouro, canela, marfim,

florete de espadachim,

bastidor, passo de dança,

Colombina e Arlequim,

passarola voadora,

pára-raios, locomotiva,

barco de proa festiva,

alto-forno, geradora,

cisão do átomo, radar,

ultra-som, televisão,

desembarque em foguetão

Freddie Mercury of Queen died of AIDS complications at the age of 45. - November 24, 1991

Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara; Gujarati: ફરોખ બલ્સારા*, Pharōkh Balsārā*; 5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991) was a British musician, singer, and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist and lyricist of the rock band Queen. As a performer, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and powerful vocals over a four-octave range. As a songwriter, Mercury composed many hits for Queen, including "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Killer Queen", "Somebody to Love", "Don't Stop Me Now", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", and "We Are the Champions". In addition to his work with Queen, he led a solo career, and also occasionally served as a producer and guest musician (piano or vocals) for other artists. He died of bronchopneumonia brought on by AIDS on 24 November 1991, only one day after publicly acknowledging that he had the disease.

Mercury was a Parsi born in Zanzibar and grew up there and in India until his mid-teens. In 2002, Mercury was placed at number 58 in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons, he continues to be voted one of the greatest singers in the history of popular music. In 2005, a poll organised by Blender and MTV2 saw Mercury voted the greatest male singer of all time. In 2008, Rolling Stone editors ranked him number 18 on their list of the 100 greatest singers of all time. In 2009, a Classic Rock poll saw him voted the greatest rock singer of all time. Allmusic has characterised Mercury as "one of rock's greatest all-time entertainers", who possessed "one of the greatest voices in all of music".

In October 1986, the British press was already reporting that Mercury had had his blood tested for HIV/AIDS at a Harley Street clinic. A reporter for The Sun, Hugh Whittow, questioned Mercury about the story at Heathrow Airport as he was returning from a trip to Japan. Mercury denied he had a sexually transmitted disease. According to his partner Jim Hutton, Mercury was diagnosed with AIDS shortly after Easter of 1987. Around that time, Mercury claimed in an interview to have tested negative for HIV. Despite the denials, the British press pursued the rampant rumours over the next few years, fuelled by Mercury's increasingly gaunt appearance, Queen's absence from touring, and reports from former lovers to various tabloid journals – by 1990 the rumours about Mercury's health were rife. At the 1990 Brit Awards held at the Dominion Theatre, London on 18 February, a visibly frail Mercury made his final public appearance on stage when he joined the rest of Queen to collect the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. Towards the end of his life, he was routinely stalked by photographers, while the daily tabloid newspaper The Sun featured a series of articles claiming that he was seriously ill; notably in an article from November 1990 which featured an image of a haggard looking Mercury on the front page accompanied by the headline "It's official – Freddie is seriously ill".

However, Mercury and his inner circle of colleagues and friends, whom he felt he could trust, continually denied the stories, even after one front page article published on 29 April 1991, which showed Mercury appearing very haggard in what was by then a rare public appearance. Brian May confirmed in a 1993 interview that Mercury had informed the band of his illness much earlier. Filmed in May 1991, the music video for "These Are the Days of Our Lives" features a very thin Mercury, which are his final scenes in front of the camera.

After the conclusion of his work with Queen in June 1991, Mercury retired to his home in Kensington. His former partner, Mary Austin, had been a particular comfort in his final years, and in the last few weeks of his life made regular visits to his home to look after him. Near the end of his life, Mercury was starting to lose his sight, and his deterioration was so overpowering he could not get out of bed. Due to his worsening condition, Mercury decided to hasten his death by refusing to take his medication, and just continued taking pain killers.

On 22 November 1991, Mercury called Queen's manager Jim Beach over to his Kensington home, to discuss a public statement. The next day, the following announcement was made to the international press on behalf of Mercury:
“ Following the enormous conjecture in the press over the last two weeks, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV positive and have AIDS. I felt it correct to keep this information private to date to protect the privacy of those around me. However, the time has come now for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth and I hope that everyone will join with me, my doctors, and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease. My privacy has always been very special to me and I am famous for my lack of interviews. Please understand this policy will continue. ”

On the evening of 24 November 1991, a little over 24 hours after issuing that statement, Mercury died at the age of 45 at his home in Kensington. The official cause of death was bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS. The news of his death had reached newspaper and television crews by the early hours of 25 November.

On 27 November, Mercury's funeral service was conducted by a Zoroastrian priest. An intensely private man, Mercury's service was for 35 of his close friends and family, with the remaining members of Queen and Elton John among those in attendance. Mercury was cremated at Kensal Green Cemetery, West London. In accordance with Mercury's wishes, Mary Austin took possession of his ashes and buried them in an undisclosed location. The whereabouts of his ashes are believed to be known only to Mary Austin, who has stated that she will never reveal where she buried them.

In his will, Mercury left the vast majority of his wealth, including his home and recording royalties, to Mary Austin, and the remainder to his parents and sister. He further left £500,000 to his chef Joe Fanelli, £500,000 to his personal assistant Peter Freestone, £100,000 to his driver Terry Giddings, and £500,000 to Jim Hutton. Mary Austin continues to live at Mercury's home, Garden Lodge, Kensington, with her family. Hutton was involved in a 2000 biography of Mercury, Freddie Mercury, the Untold Story, and also gave an interview for The Times for what would have been Mercury's 60th birthday.

The Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "I Saw Her Standing There" are released in the United States, marking the beginning of Beatlemania on an international level. - December 26, 1963

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c4/The_Beatles_in_America.JPG/800px-The_Beatles_in_America.JPG
The Beatles arrive at John F. Kennedy International Airport, 7 February 1964

In February 1963, the Beatles recorded ten songs during a single marathon studio session for their debut LP, Please Please Me. The album was supplemented by the four tracks already released on their first two singles. After the moderate success of "Love Me Do", "Please Please Me" met with a more emphatic reception. Released in January 1963, two months ahead of the album of the same name, the song reached number one on every chart in London except Record Retailer, where it stalled at number two. Recalling how the Beatles "rushed to deliver a debut album, bashing out Please Please Me in a day", Allmusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine comments, "Decades after its release, the album still sounds fresh, precisely because of its intense origins." Lennon said little thought went into composition at the time; he and McCartney were "just writing songs à la Everly Brothers, à la Buddy Holly, pop songs with no more thought of them than that—to create a sound. And the words were almost irrelevant."

Released in March 1963, the album initiated a run during which eleven of their twelve studio albums released in the United Kingdom through 1970 reached number one. The band's third single, "From Me to You", came out in April and was also a chart-topping hit, starting an almost unbroken string of seventeen British number one singles for the Beatles, including all but one of the eighteen they released over the next six years. Released in August, the band's fourth single, "She Loves You", achieved the fastest sales of any record in the UK up to that time, selling three-quarters of a million copies in under four weeks. It became their first single to sell a million copies, and remained the biggest-selling record in the UK until 1978, when "Mull of Kintyre", by McCartney's post-Beatles band Wings, surpassed it in sales.[52] Their commercial success brought increased media exposure, to which the Beatles responded with an irreverent and comical attitude that defied the expectations of pop musicians at the time, inspiring even more interest. As their popularity spread, a frenzied adulation of the group took hold. Greeted with riotous enthusiasm by screaming fans, the press dubbed the phenomenon "Beatlemania".

In late October, the Beatles began a five-day tour of Sweden, their first time abroad since the final Hamburg engagement of December 1962. Upon their return to the UK on 31 December, "several hundred screaming fans" greeted them in heavy rain at Heathrow Airport wrote Lewisohn. Around fifty to a hundred journalists and photographers as well as representatives from the BBC also joined the airport reception, the first of more than one hundred such events. The next day, they began their fourth tour of Britain within nine months, this one scheduled for six weeks. In mid-November, as Beatlemania intensified, police resorted to using high-pressure water hoses to control the crowd before a concert in Plymouth.

Please Please Me maintained the top position on the Record Retailer chart for thirty weeks, only to be displaced by their follow-up, With the Beatles, which EMI delayed the release of until sales of Please Please Me had subsided. Recorded between July and October, With the Beatles made better use of studio production techniques than its predecessor. It held the top spot for twenty-one weeks with a chart life of 40 weeks. Erlewine described the LP as "a sequel of the highest order—one that betters the original". The album caught the attention of music critic William Mann of The Times, who suggested that Lennon and McCartney were "the outstanding English composers of 1963". The newspaper published a series of articles in which Mann offered detailed analyses of the music, lending it respectability.[69] With the Beatles became the second album in UK chart history to sell a million copies, a figure previously reached only by the 1958 South Pacific soundtrack. In writing the sleeve notes for the album, the band's press officer, Tony Barrow used the superlative the "fabulous foursome", which the media widely adopted as the "Fab Four".

EMI's American subsidiary, Capitol Records, hindered the Beatles' releases in the United States for more than a year by initially declining to issue their music, including their first three singles. Concurrent negotiations with the independent US labels Vee-Jay and Swan led to the release of the songs in 1963, but legal issues with royalties and publishing rights proved an obstacle to the successful marketing of the group in the US. American chart success began after Epstein arranged for a $40,000 US marketing campaign and secured the support of disk jockey Carrol James, who first played the band's records in mid-December 1963, initiating their music's spread across US radio. This caused an increase in demand, leading Capitol to rush-release "I Want to Hold Your Hand" later that month. Released 26 December 1963, with the band's previously scheduled debut there just weeks away, "I Want to Hold Your Hand" sold a million copies, becoming a number one hit in the US by mid-January.

On 7 February 1964, the Beatles left the United Kingdom with an estimated four thousand fans gathered at Heathrow, waving and screaming as the aircraft took off. Upon landing at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport, an uproarious crowd estimated at three thousand greeted them. They gave their first live US television performance two days later on The Ed Sullivan Show, watched by approximately 73 million viewers in over 23 million households, or 34 percent of the American population. According to the Nielsen rating service, it was "the largest audience that had ever been recorded for an American television program", wrote biographer Jonathan Gould. The next morning, the Beatles awoke to a negative critical consensus in the US, but a day later their first US concert saw Beatlemania erupt at Washington Coliseum. Back in New York the following day, the Beatles met with another strong reception during two shows at Carnegie Hall. The band then flew to Florida and appeared on the weekly Ed Sullivan Show a second time, before another 70 million viewers, before returning to the UK on 22 February.

Creedence Clearwater Revival released the "Proud Mary" LP. - January 25, 1969

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iE2UOvKVT0

"Proud Mary" is a song written by John Fogerty and recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival (in which Fogerty played lead guitar and sang lead vocals) on the 1969 album Bayou Country.
The phrase "Proud Mary" reminded John Fogerty of a domestic washerwoman, which is what he started writing the song about. When he wrote the music, the first few chords reminded him of a paddle-wheel going around, and he thought of the Mississippi River. Instead of "Proud Mary" being a clean-up lady, "she" became a boat.
Proud Mary was Released as a single in January 1969, it became CCR's first top-ten hit on the U.S. Pop charts. Bob Dylan said this song was his favorite single of 1969. It was the first of five singles that the band released that would peak on the charts, a record for most number-two singles for a group without ever having a number-one song.

Every Christmas I annoy you with a new Christmas song & video done by The Killers. They publish one every year, all proceeds to the (PRODUCT) RED charity...the Bono thing. They have done this every year since 2006.

Just so I am clear, I annoy you because the songs and videos are freakin' awesome. The charity stuff is just a cherry.

Anyway, somehow this Christmas, I completely forgot to see what was new this (last) Christmas. I guess I have to chalk it up to senility, my old age and all.

This (last) year's song is "Christmas in L.A.", with Dawes, and the video features Owen Wilson.

It's another damn good song in its own right. So check it out! And if you like it, buy it. It's a fraction of the cost of a cup of joe.

You tell me you don't love me over a cup of coffee
And I just have to look away
A million miles between us
Planets crashing to dust
I just let it fade away

I'm walking empty streets hoping we might meet
I see your car parked on the road
The light on at your window
I know for sure that you're home
But I just have to pass on by

So no of course we can't be friends
Not while I'm still this obsessed
I guess I always knew the score
This is how our story ends

I smoke your brand of cigarettes
And pray that you might give me a call
I lie around in bed all day just staring at the walls
Hanging round bars at night wishing I had never been born
And give myself to anyone who wants to take me home

So no of course we can't be friends
Not while I still feel like this
I guess I always knew the score
This is where our story ends

You left behind some clothes
My belly somersaults when I pick them off the floor
My friends all say they're worried
I'm looking far too skinny
I've stopped returning all their calls

And no of course we can't be friends
Not while I'm still so obsessed
I want to ask where I went wrong
But don't say anything at all

It took a cup of coffee
To prove that you don't love me

Heard the overture to this on satellite radio recently, been enjoying the rest of the work. Elverhoj means "Elf's Hill" and incidentally makes a great RPG character name. Didn't know much about Friedrich Kuhlau (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuhlau) until looking into it. He's a much more impressive chamber music composer if you care to look into it, but that wouldn't match the topic of "What are you listening to (*now*)?"

Nice find :-bd I really enjoyed the EVA anime series. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neon_Genesis_Evangelion) I'm a big fan of anime in general so.....

The mix of the song RadioActive by Imagine Dragons in that vid was good but here are 2 mixes that I like much better.

Close my eyes
Feel me now
I don't know how you could not love me now
You will know, with her feet down to the ground
Over there, and I want you Love to know
You can't hide, oh no, from the way I feel

Turn my head
Into sound
I don't know when I lay down on the ground
You will find the (way it) hurts to love
Never cared, and the world turned hearts to love
We will see, oh now, in a day or two
You will wait
See me go
I don't care, where your head turned (I don't know)
You will wait, when I turn my eyes around
Overhead when I hold you next to me
Overhead, to know the way I see

Close my eyes
Feel me now
I don't know, maybe you could not hurt me now
Here alone, when I feel down too
Over there, when I await true love for you
You can hide, oh now, the way I do
You can see, oh now, oh the way I do

"Led Zeppelin performing one of their earliest recorded sessions, for Denmark's Radio."

1969. 31 minutes. And the audio is amazing. Plant's voice is young and fresh. Page is....well...FANTASTIC. See 22:00-24:00 Did Page just erupt from the ground as a guitar god? Was there ever a learning period?

(yeah there are several sections in this where they needed an editor. 'Going on too long in that bit!")

Love the air guitar that Plant does at 30:00.

I want somebody to share
Share the rest of my life
Share my innermost thoughts
Know my intimate details
Someone who'll stand by my side
And give me support
And in return
She'll get my support
She will listen to me
When I want to speak
About the world we live in
And life in general
Though my views may be wrong
They may even be perverted
She'll hear me out
And won't easily be converted
To my way of thinking
In fact she'll often disagree
But at the end of it all
She will understand me

I want somebody who cares
For me passionately
With every thought and
With every breath
Someone who'll help me see things
In a different light
All the things I detest
I will almost like
I don't want to be tied
To anyone's strings
I'm carefully trying to steer clear of
Those things
But when I'm asleep
I want somebody
Who will put their arms around me
And kiss me tenderly
Though things like this
Make me sick
In a case like this
I'll get away with it

Too alarming now to talk about
Take your pictures down and shake it out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Kudos, my hero
Leaving all the best
You know my hero
The one that's on

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero

Morrissey - The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores (live in Manchester) 2005 [HD]

F'ing awesome!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKdBw-ncLjs

"The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores"

You must be wondering how
The boy next door turned out
Have a care, but don't stare
Because he's still there
Lamenting policewomen, policemen
Silly women, taxmen, uniformed whores
They who wish to hurt you
Work within the law

This world is full, oh
So full of crashing bores
And I must be one
'Cause no one ever turns to me to say
"Take me in your arms
Take me in your arms
and love me"

You must be wondering how
The boy next door turned out
Have a care and say a prayer
Because he's still there
Lamenting policewomen, policemen,
Silly women, taxmen, uniformed whores
Educated criminals work within the law

This world is full
So full of crashing bores
And I must be one
'Cause no one ever turns to me to say
"Take me in your arms
Take me in your arms and love me
And love me"

What really lies
Beyond the constraints of my mind?
Could it be the sea
With fate mooning back at me?
No, it's just more lock-jawed pop-stars
Thicker than pig-shit
Nothing to convey
So scared to show intelligence
It might smear their lovely career

This world - I am afraid -
Is designed for crashing bores
I am not one
I am not one
You don't understand
You don't understand

And yet you can
Take me in your arms and love me, love me
And love me
Take me in your arms and love me, love me, love me
Take me in your arms and love me
Take me in your arms and love me
Would you do, would you do what you should do?

Damn! Video sucks back then. But the tunes were raw and urgent!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3lvCa5RNZI

There was a friend of mine on murder
And the judge's gavel fell
Jury found him guilty
Gave him sixteen years in hell
He said "I ain't spending my life here
I ain't living alone
Ain't breaking no rocks on the chain gang
I'm breakin' out and headin' home"

Gonna make a jailbreak
And I'm lookin' towards the sky
I'm gonna make a jailbreak
Oh, how I wish that I could fly

All in the name of liberty
All in the name of liberty
Got to be free

Jailbreak, let me out of here
Jailbreak, sixteen years ah
Jailbreak, had more than I can take
Jailbreak, yeah

He said he'd seen his lady being fooled with
By another man
She was down and he was up
Had a gun in his hand
Bullets started flying everywhere
And people started to scream
Big man lying on the ground
With a hole in his body
Where his life had been

But it was all in the name of liberty
All in the name of liberty
I got to be free

Jailbreak, jailbreak
I got to break out
Out of here

Heartbeats, they were racin'
Freedom, he was chasin'
Spotlights, sirens, rifles firing
But he made it out
With a bullet in his back

Jailbreak, jailbreak
Jailbreak, jailbreak
Jailbreak, jailbreak
Jailbreak, jailbreak
Jailbreak, jailbreak

Meadowlark, fly your way down.
I hold a cornucopia and a golden crown
For you to wear upon your fleecy down.

My meadowlark, sing to me.

Hummingbird, just let me die
Inside the broken ovals of your olive eye.
I do believe you gave it your best try.

My hummingbird, sing to me.

My hummingbird, sing to me.

Don't believe a word that I haven't heard.
Little children laughing at the boys and girls.
The meadowlark singing to you each and every day.
The arc light on the hillside and the market in the hay.

To Love is to Bury
Cowboy Junkies (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboy_Junkies)
The Trinity Session (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity_Sessions)

A beautiful and tragic song. Love the crying steel guitar.

The music was recorded at Toronto, Ontario's Church of the Holy Trinity on 27 November 1987, with the band circled around a single microphone.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4hKmQpcT1k

I buried him down by the river
'cause that's where he liked to be
And every night when the moon is high
I go there and weep openly
He and I were married
By this river 'neath this willow tree

And with God and friends witnessing it
He pledged his life to me
To me he was Earth
And I rooted in his soil
I to he was Sky vast and free
Of the burdens from which he toiled

Then one night a terrible fight
Words spoken better left unsaid
With his wedding vows ringing in my ears
He gave his life to me
They say to love is to bury
Those demons from which we all hide
But tonight by this river 'neath this willow tree
Becoming one of Earth and Sky

"The Final Cut"

through the fish eyed lens of tear stained eyes
i can barely define the shape of this moment in time
and far from flying high in clear blue skies
i'm spiralling down to the hole in the ground where i hide
if you negotiate the minefield in the drive
and beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes
and if you make it past the shotgun in the hall
dial the combination. open the priesthole
and if i'm in i'll tell you what's behind the wall
there's a kid who had a big hallucination
making love to girls in magazines
he wonders if you're sleeping with your new found faith
could anybody love him
or is it just a crazy dream
and if i show you my dark side
will you still hold me tonight
and if i open my heart to you
and show you my weak side
what would you do
would you sell your story to rolling stone
would you take the children away
and leave me alone
and smile in reassurance
as you whisper down the phone
would you send me packing
or would you take me home
thought i oughta bare my naked feelings
thought i oughta tear the curtain down
i held the blade in trembling hands
prepared to make it but just then the phone rang
i never had the nerve to make the final cut

"A World Alone"

That slow burn wait while it gets dark, bruising the sun.
I feel grown up with you in your car, I know it's dumb.

Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

We've both got a million bad habits to kick, not sleeping is one.
We're biting our nails, you're biting my lip, I'm biting my tongue.

Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
People are talking, people are talking (ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)
People are talking, people are talking

Raise a glass, 'cause I'm not done saying it.
They all wanna get rough, get away with it.
Let 'em talk 'cause we're dancing in this world alone, world alone, we're all alone.

All my fake friends and all of their noise, complain about work
They're studying business, I study the floor, and you haven't stopped smoking all night.
Maybe the Internet raised us, or maybe people are jerks.
(People are talking, people are talking)
But not you
(People are talking, people are talking)

Raise a glass, 'cause I'm not done saying it.
They all wanna get rough, get away with it.
Let 'em talk 'cause we're dancing in this world alone, world alone, we're all alone.

All the double-edged people and schemes.
They make a mess then go home and get clean.
You're my best friend, and we're dancing in a world alone, a world alone, we're all alone.

I know we're not everlasting
We're a train wreck waiting to happen
One day the blood won't flow so gladly
One day we'll all get still
(people are talking, people are talking)
(people are talking, people are talking)
Get still
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
People are talking, people are talking (ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)
People are talking, people are talking
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
People are talking, people are talking (ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)
People are talking, people are talking

Raise a glass, 'cause I'm not done saying it.
They all wanna get rough, get away with it.

You're my best friend and we're dancing in a world alone, a world alone, we're all alone.

People are talking, people are talking
People are talking, people are talking
People are talking, people are talking
People are talking, people are talking

Let 'em talk

I'm a Perfect Circle fan. :-bd
Two thirds of their songs seem to be in 6/8 time rather than the standard 2/4 or 4/4.
That and the key they play in scratch my itch for something a little different.

@Z
Thanks for including the lyrics.

Walking these dirty streets
With hate in my mind
Feeling the scorn of the world
I won't follow your rules
Blame and lies, Contradictions arise
Blame and lies, Contradictions arise
Nonconformity in my inner self
Only I guide my inner self
I won't change my way
It has to be this way
I live my life for myself
Forget your filthy ways
Blame and lies, Contradictions arise
Blame and lies, Contradictions arise
Nobody will change my way
Life betrays, but I keep going
There's no light, but there's hope
Crushing oppression, I win
Betraying and playing dirty, you think
You'll win
But someday you'll fall, and I'll be waiting
Laughs of an insane man, you'll hear
Personality is my weapon against your envy
Walking these dirty streets
With hate in my mind
Feeling the scorn of the world
I won't follow your rules
Nonconformity in my inner self
Only I guide my inner self

Lol yeah the Brazilian accent didn't help things much. Still, it was great music. 2014 marked 30 years since the band was founded, which is far more than most bands can say. Max (the Brazilian vocalist) left the band several years ago though after his stepson was killed in a car accident.

Can't Tell If this Is True or Dream
Deep down Inside I Feel to Scream

Now That the War Is Through with Me
I'm Waking up I Can Not See
That There's Not Much Left of Me
Nothing Is Real but Pain Now

Hold My Breath as I Wish for Death
Oh Please God,wake Me

Back in the Womb its Much Too Real
in Pumps Life That I must Feel
but Can't Look Forward to Reveal
Look to the Time When I'll Live
Fed Through the Tube That Sticks in Me
Just like a Wartime Novelty
Tied to Machines That Make Me Be
Cut this Life off from Me

Hold My Breath as I Wish for Death
Oh Please God,wake Me

Now the World Is Gone I'm Just One
Oh God,help Me Hold My Breath as I Wish for Death
Oh Please God Help Me

Imprisoning Me
All That I See

I remember the day back in 1985, a buddy came over with a cassette tape and said, " You got to hear this "
It was the Metallica album "Master of Puppets"
That was and still is great weight lifting music right there.
Back then in California, Metallica became probably the biggest underground rock band there ever was.
They never got played on the radio or on the new mtv or any tv period.
Nobody would touch it, not even KLOS radio in L.A.

It wasn't until that "One" video" that you posted a few years later the band got into the mainstream.
The band was hugh before that video everywhere for years.
I saw the "Justice for All" tour went it went thru San Diego in 1989 think it was.
It was wild.
That was the first time I saw a "Mosh pit" and stage diving.
The "floor" is not a good place to be at these types of concerts :)

I first saw Metallic at the Monsters of Rock Tour in Arrowhead Stadium on July 10th, 1988, in Kansas City, Missouri.

It was HOT!!!
They had fire hoses shooting into the crowd to cool them off and cut down on the heat related medical attention.

The bands were:

Kingdom Come
Metallica
Dokken
Scorpions
Van Halen

Sammy Hagar climbed up most of the 3 story speaker array while singing.
The Bass was so intense in the stadium that it was vibrating my internal organs.

It was my first experience witnessing naked female crowd surfing.

There is something about the vibe of this I cannot get out of my head. And that's a good thing.

Hozier - Jackie And Wilson

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSWqxbswQAY

"Jackie And Wilson"

So tired trying to see from behind the red in my eyes,
No better version of me I could pretend to be tonight.
So deep in this swill with the most familiar of swine
For reasons wretched and divine.

She blows outta nowhere, roman candle of the wild
Laughing away through my feeble disguise
No other version of me I would rather be tonight.
And, Lord, she found me just in time

'Cause with my mid-youth crisis all said and done
I need to be youthfully felt 'cause, God, I never felt young

She's gonna save me,
Call me "baby, "
Run her hands through my hair
She'll know me crazy,
Soothe me daily
Better yet she wouldn't care
We'll steal her Lexus,
Be detectives,
Ride round picking up clues
We'll name our children
Jackie and Wilson,
Raise 'em on rhythm and blues.

Lord, it be great to find a place we could escape sometime
Me and my Isis growing black irises in the sunshine
Every version of me dead and buried in the yard outside.
Sit back and watch the world go by.

Happy to lie back watch it burn and rust
We tried the world, good God, it wasn't for us.

She's gonna save me,
Call me "baby, "
Run her hands through my hair
She'll know me crazy,
Soothe me daily
Better yet she wouldn't care
We'll steal her Lexus,
Be detectives,
Ride round picking up clues
We'll name our children
Jackie and Wilson,
Raise 'em on rhythm and blues.

Cut clean from the dream at night let my mind reset
Looking up from the cigarette, and she's already left
I start digging up the yard of what's left of me and our little vignette
For whatever poor soul is coming next

She's gonna save me,
Call me "baby, "
Run her hands through my hair
She'll know me crazy,
Soothe me daily
Better yet she wouldn't care
We'll steal her Lexus,
Be detectives,
Ride round picking up clues
We'll name our children
Jackie and Wilson,
Raise 'em on rhythm and blues.

I'm so tired of being alone
These penitent walls are all I've known
Songbird calling across the water
Inside my silent asylum

Oh don't leave me on my own
Left me standing all alone
Cut me down to size so I can fit inside
Lies that will divide us both in time

See the turncoat on his knees
A vagabond that no one sees
When a moon is throwing shadows
You can't save the ones you've caught in battle

Oh don't leave me on my own
Left me standing all alone
Cut me down to size so I can fit inside
Lies you try to hide behind your eyes

Don't leave me on my own
Don't leave me on my own
So cut me down to size so I can fit inside
Lies that will divide us both in time

My Old Addiction - K.D. Lang

(My opinion: She is amazing talent, and Drag is an amazing album)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blFgdogvpHI

My old addiction
Changed the wiring in my brain
So that when it turns the switches
Then I am not the same

So like the flowers toward the Sun
I will follow
Stretch myself out thin
Like there's a part of me that's already buried
That sends me out into this wind

My old addiction
Is a flood upon the land
This tiny lifeboat
Can keep me dry
But my weight is all
That it can stand

So when I try to lean just a little
For just a splash to cool my heat
Ahh that trickle
Turns out fickle
Fills my boat up
Five miles deep

My old addiction
Makes me crave only what is best
Like these just this morning song birds
Craving upward from the nest
These tiny birds outside my window
Take my hand to be their mom
These open mouths
Would trust and swallow
Anything that came along

Like my old addiction
Now the other side of Day
As the springtime
Of my life's time
Turns the other way

If a swan can have a song
I think I know that tune
But the page is only scrawled
And I am gone this afternoon
But the page is only scrawled
And I am gone this afternoon

The "Grandfather of the double bass drums"..
If you know what that is, it goes on during several parts of the song,
if you don't...
Look at 4:42 to see what it is.
It's been copied by many bands since the early 80's
and not very many drummers do it very well like he does.

My mother was a music teacher.
That meant I was required to play a musical instrument.
I broke off a portion of a front tooth in the third grade.
The break went into the gum.
After having it capped I was told I couldn't play any musical instrument that used the mouth for fear of putting pressure on the tooth and killing it.

It was the drums in the band or the violin in the orchestra.

That is how I started my musical life as a drummer.

Here is what I listen to.

Nice Ron !
Those double sets live are so kool.
Godsmack is a really good band.
Slayer ? I was never a fan of this band.
But they do a few songs that are really unique for what they did.
The speed they played at was their main thing.
The fact that they have been touring now for 30 years is amazing !
They rolled close by here last year.
