View Full Version : Ordered a new GTX 460
I took the plunge and ordered a new EVGA Nvidia Geforce GTX 260.:) It really give me that giddy new toy feeling. Lets just hope my 650 watt PSU can power it along side the GTS 250. It It only has one PCIe connector left so I'm gona have to use an 4pin to 6 pin adaptor. Do you guys link I can safely run it with the current setup?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130568
I also have a question for my Nvidia 210 that needs answering.

Awesome buy. I'm an AMD guy myself, but I can see the need for some CUDA representation. The GTX 460 is probably the best bang for the buck NVIDIA card on the market right now, and highly over-clockable! :D
You're looking at a TDP of 160W for your new 460 and TDP of 150W for your GTS 250. Your total GPU TDP is then at actual 310W, leaving "theoretical" 340W left for the rest of your system. If we assume 80% efficiency, that leaves you actual 210W for rest of system, which is probably much more accurate.
If it's a solid 650W PSU, and the rest of your system is pretty "normal"...i.e. nothing too hopped up, then you should be fine on the power.
Let us know when she gets to her new home! ;)
I picked up the Evga GTX 460 last month from CompUSA. I have the TR version instead of the AR. [I] don't see any difference. I use it for Folding@home and I am getting 10673 points per day. It is an awesome card.

The TR has 3 year warranty while the AR has a lifetime warranty.
Thanks...I usually don't keep a computer for 3 years anyway..I am always upgrading and giving parts away to kids or grandkids...lol.

Are you only giving them the parts on the condition that they crunch? ;)
Sorry , it doesn't work that way. Their computer are not set up to run 24/7 the way mine are and most of them for the grandkids are not on the internet. I give them parts so that they cn keep old ones running and I also do upgrades for them. As for the ones I give the kids the don't have the time to bother with computers except to check e-mail.

Darn! They need to be educated!
I got the new card up and running! It produces tons of heat though, a lot more than the GTS 250. The power system seems to be running stable but the PSU's running a bit warm but thats to be expected of PSU running near it's limit. I have to say, SHE IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! She's spitting out the PPS Sieve WUs in only 1/3rd the time that the 250's putting out. This it going to really jack my RAC up to about 300,000-400,000! Somebody pinch me! *giggles like a little school girl*

I find that odd.
My dual 460's, heftily clocked-up from 675 to 900 run MUCH cooler than my dual 250's.
60c as opposed to 80c.

Might have something to to with the fan setup on the card. The 250 has it's fan in the middle and the air escapes on both sides while the fan on on the 460 is on the end of the card and it ejects all the heat out the back. The GPU utility that came with the 460 says they'r both running at 60C. So whatever I guess.
