What is a good program to check CPU temp while the system is running?

This one is my favorite: Hardware Monitor (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html)

That one is a good utility but to get all the features you have to buy the Pro version. A good free tool is SpeedFan (http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php) but it takes a little reading to understand configuration. The bonus with SpeedFan is that if your MB has the proper setup, you can use SF to control some or all of your case fans as well as your CPU fan. Another good utility is RealTemp (http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/) though I have no personal experience with it.

If you have an MSI board use the Control Center program that came with the drivers disk. It'll display the CPU temp, and allow you to change fan speeds and over clock if you don't feel safe messing with the manual settings in the BIOS. I'm not a fan of Core Temp, didn't work very well on my build.

Just to set the record straight: That was a joke. :p All cores are running at full load and are a steady 71C.

Roger, Roger. FWIW, that is still kind of high. My Core i7 never goes above 61C even while crunching a project like Aqua on six threads and gaming at the same time.

Great. Now I am just going to have to throw this thing away.

Hmmm...depends on the CPU, but 71 may actually be a touch on the high side...but who knows, you might get years out of it that way! :D

A few extra case fans might help too, or a bigger HSF...if it ever feels like it needs to cool down some. Otherwise, as long as you're not erroring out a bunch of WUs, no big deal what it is, right? ;)

Its the stock Cooler that came with my system.

The CPU air system uses x2 92mm Fans. The hood on the left with the XPS logo has one and the CPU heatsink has the second which is mount on the right-hand side of the cooler.
My system has a third 92mm fan for the PCIe slots which is mounted in its own hood located above the XPS hood.
