I am having problems getting any 58xx cards to run in my system so it has been suggested to me to throw this out there and see if anyone knows why I am cursed. The motherboard I am using is this: http://www.superwarehouse.com/ASUS_M2A-MVP_Motherboard/M2A-MVP/ps/1502788 with the 0511 BIOS, and my PSU is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171052 Here is the deal. The video card that is running in it now is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161292 and it works just fine. I have tried 3 different 58xx cards in this system and it will power up (all the fans come one, can hear the HDs spinning) but no post.......no nothing. I throw the 4870 back in and she fires up just fine. Anyone have any ideas??

PS, these are the specs on the 3 58xx cards in case that makes any difference.

How many cards are you trying to throw in there at once?

Just a single 5830 card at this time, and perhaps another 5830 in the future.

Just a shot in the dark here, doubt this is the problem but worth a try. Maybe a driver issue? You need to completely uninstall the old drivers before installing the new ones. My other guess would be maybe not enough juice from the PSU.

I'm going to say drivers. The PSU is good enough to handle any 2 of those GPUs. It's a single rail so should be fine. I've had something similar happen to me, all because of the drivers.

Did you uninstall drivers and run DriverSweeper to clear the riffraff?

Wait a second, though. He's not even getting POST. I mean, if it was even showing a BIOS screen, I'd say drivers too. But he's not even getting a boot going yet...so it must be something with that board - either the way the physical PCI-e x16 slots are wired, or the BIOS on the board that talks to the slots - one of those isn't communicating with the 58xx correctly, like it is with his 48xx GPU.:-B:confused:

That's also a possibility. But drivers have caused mine to not even post as well. It's AMD, afterall. Not known for quality drivers. I would try putting a GPU in the 3rd slot if you hav one just to see if there's a problem with the slot itself.

Alright, I'm totally in on that, then. Try the other slot, and if that doesn't work, try (with the 4870 in) booting into Windows, uninstall the ATI drivers, and then run driversweeper ... and then shut it down, and pop that 5830 in there and see what happens. Make sure to try both slots again, too. ;)

Hate to be a kill joy but I have already done that. :-(

Then there is only one option left. You will have to try the troublesome card in a different system. If it works there then its your motherboard.

The problem could be the chipset on your MB. It may not be able to support that card. The other possibility: Bad PCIe slot(s) and/or PCIe Bus.
