As a moderator on NFS@Home project I am trying to bring the experts of the backstage of the project to the forum. One accepted my invitation, more to come. I hope to increase within 1-2 months the activity of the feedback of the project hoping at the end we can achieve our goals, to be shared soon.

That are good news Carlos and we must see if we can make a NFS challenge soon, too many challenges on next times.

It would be good to know what are the best dates for the project and see when we dont have other challenges, to choose a good date for both, the team and the project.

I am reaching a point where my computers are not enough fast for prime search so I might turn them over here so I can help NFS and FB too.
I will try to schedule a challenge in a few weeks times.

About the challenge we are thinking about one for lasievee application. I am trying to see if we can code a challenge page to be added to NFS@Home home page.

I need some hours on all NFS applications anyway, since they can be made on Linux everything will be fine to me.

Now maybe time to see what is other team members opinion about the possible dates.

Ok Ric. Let me know when SETI.USA prefers so I can tell the project to prepare itself with a big buffer.

From 2015-02-08 00:00 UTC to 2015-02-15 00:00 UTC, that is my opinion, more or less one day.

Can someone please post other best dates for us?

There is now a poll at the start of this thread regarding a yes or no on issuing an NFS Challenge on BoincStats. Please take a minute to vote. Thanks!

Um.....seems I haven't crunched it since it was a possible contender for the Pentathlon last year. let me check the requirements and my schedule.....lol Just kidding! ;-) If it's a challenge and a priority, then I'm in. Just make sure any info is readily available since my firewall settings are blank and so is Boinc. And it will be again since I now have new drives waiting to be installed.

We are the second team at NFS almost every day. Except for Syracuse University usually no other team passes us.

I know that most of SUSA members on NFS are not active at the forum but I still think a 5 days challenge would be good for us at the project.

I voted YES for all the members that dont come to the forum and for myself.

Turn 16e Lattice Sieve back on for 4 days and I'd come play ... I didn't get my 25k hours.

I don't personally want to do a challenge during the next 3-4 weeks ... it seems like we have been doing back to back to back challenges. I'm challenged out!

I personally think that the challenge should take place in April or after due to the future work we will be doing. I'll keep everyone up to date.

Definitely a YES !

NFS is a good project for a challenge - reliable and pays well. Besides, I'm in on any challenge issued by the team - meanwhile I will continue to work my goals. Otherwise, if my help is needed on anything in particular, you know where to find me ;)

So......it was Duke to post the first No. =)) It may of been bugged since it showed one yes after I voted Yes.....and one no. Seems to be working ok now since it's showing a pretty good response.

I dont mind the fault is always mine but the first post is not mine Bryan.

I will crunch NFS anytime I want and even if I am alone, that means no one wants to be with me and that I will accept.

I have no passwords or know how to, so I cant inscribe us for the challenge, I think (but not sure) only Administrators can do it but any date will be good for me Carlos.

If it is going to be in March then I will join in. I was one of the NO votes.

EDIT: Carlos, does it pay better under Windows or Linux and HT on or off?

pinhodecarlos
02-14-15, 09:53 AM
Bryan, HT on. Sames figures for Windows or Linux.

Sorry Duke! The Pole is in favor of having an NFS Challenge. How long and when? I was thinking 03/15/15 to 03/20/15. These dates don't overlap any other scheduled challenges.

I want to see planet3dnow in there and therefore I posted on their forum and it looks like they can't enter any boinstats challenge because the team leader is not anymore in the team, and to worst things up, Boincstats will not change team leader. This is very rude from BOINCstats. In this way I will try to see if someone from NFS@Home can code a challenge stats linked to the main page.

Need For Speed II

Hey no, wheres my trademark usage royalties?

pinhodecarlos
02-16-15, 09:10 AM
Just a quick note. Wu's deadline is 7 days so easy to bunker....
Already warned the backstage of the project so 8-9 days before the start of the challenge the buffers will be with plenty of work.

Unfortunately you are 1 challenge too early. I need; 1M to hit 5M (then I'm done), change color on 2 badges, and hours on 2 to get them to 25k.

On the Need For Speed III challenge things might be different so I can pay my debt :D

I'll be honest, I voted no on this challenge, but since we issued it, I'll be there. So what should I run?

15e I can add 15k hours
14e I can add 15k hours
16eV5 I need both hours and credits

So which one of the applications is the 16eV5? I'm running Win7 if that makes a difference. Sorry, it's not apparent to me.

Bryan
02-18-15, 09:58 AM
16e pays MUCH better than the others (unless things have changed). V5 used to be Linux only but now it is also Windows. The only problem with 16eV5 is that it can take 1G/thread of memory (or a little more). RAM (http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/results/graph_ram.py?projet=NFS@Home&application=16e Lattice Sieve V5&plateforme=all)

Unless things have changed, you will get more credits running a few less threads (so you have enough memory) than dropping to the 14e or 15e and running all threads. I used to run 10 threads on my 12 thread/16G machines and never had a memory problem. 15e pays better than 14e.

This is old data so things might have changed.

Personally I'll be running all apps during the bunker and challenge since I'm working on badges and hours. I may do the bunker in 16eV5 and then switch to 14/15 for the challenge.

You're correct.
14e pays 36 points per wu
15e pays 44 points per wu
16e V5 pays 130 points per wu (more than 1GB/thread)

~same time run for each application, either linux or windows.

hmmmm guess it has been a while for me. I have over a million credits on this project and less than 1000 hours on wuprop. not sure why but what it shows :(
14e---435 h
15e---298
16e sieve --- 186

You probably crunched it before WUProp had hours. I had over 1M credits, but no NFS badges or WUProp hours last June. Done only some nominal crunching for NFS since then.
