My machine is running warm.

I was looking at liquid coolers.

Is the 80 worth the extra money?

Thanks guys!

I installed my first liquid cooler, a Kraken X41, a few months ago and I'm pretty happy with it. It allows my i7-4790K to run all-out at 4.4Ghz with moderate noise and much better temps than previously with a Cooler Master 212 EVO. It's a bit more expensive than the ones you're looking at... usually between $95 and $105: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-cpu-cooler-rlkrx4101

I've heard mixed reviews of Corsair coolers, you may want to look at Cooler Master for comparison. Good luck!!

Check http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/cpu-cooler/#w=1&m=11. You can save a few bucks. I have a Corsair 80i and it is now about a year old and running fine. I did change the fans to a model that is quieter but everything else works great.

I have 6 I7-3930k crunchers running with the H100i. Been using them for 18 months now and haven't had any issues. I can't answer your question directly ... I prefer to have more margin so I personally would go with the H80.

So I wanted the 100, so I bought a new case (my old one was too small) and now I have better air flow too :D

Oooops, I should have kept my mouth shut =)) I have had very good service from them so I would personally be inclined to purchase them again. There are some reviews that say there are better coolers but I'm quite satisfied.

Thanks Bryan. So far so good. It dropped from 100 degrees (scary) to 71, so they are obviously making a huge difference and about 15 degrees lower at idle.

So your $80 upgrade snowballed into something much bigger?!? I don't know anything about that! :p

Looks great!

Yeah definitely got in the 3 digit range this time around. I am sure no one else on this board has ever experienced this either :P

I need a little help on coolers. I have a corsair h60 cooler that has been running for 4 years without a problem. Today I started getting shut downs from hi cpu temps. What goes wrong with liquid coolers? The only thing I can see that may be happening is the cooler fan might be slowing down. It still seems to turn ok by hand and is pulling some air through the cooler. Frist time I have ever had a problem with one.

edit: I have cleaned everything and put new thermal compound on it, it is still getting to hot. I even shut down boinc and it will run but still too warm. reset overclocking back to normal.

guess I could put a stock cooler on it and see what happens, but that doesn't tell me what is wrong with the cooler.

Rick, the circulating pump may be giving out. Kinda like old hearts, they just don't pump as good as they used to do :D
