View Full Version : Grrrrrrr...DNETC WU 8 hrs!
Grrrrrrrrrr...just got the machine back online at midnight. It's been a long go. Came back this morning and 1 DNETC WU was "crunching" at 0% for over 8 hrs. Not very happy about that. :P
Ok guys...HELP! ;)
Something is up. Same 5870 card...never had these problems before. I just went to the back room to check the rig and...another DNETC WU was hung - going on 2 hrs and some change. Not sure what is going on.
Do you think it could be these new drivers don't like DNETC? I downloaded the new 10.12 last night that are on AMD's site. Any ideas for me to try?
I set it to Collatz just for the rest of today until we can figure something out...I want to see if it's just DNETC that's a problem or any other projects.
AndrOINC seems to be running smoothly on the x6 CPU.

Uh... oh. I had some major problems after running DNETC yesterday and Max is still having problems. Even though our problems are different then your's, they may be related. Are you having any problems running Collatz? Run a few MW wu's and check the task details. What are the clocks readings in the task info?
I'd say to try 10.11 or maybe even go back to 10.10. I just installed some new GPU's last week and had similar problems. Ended up going back to older drivers.

+1 to what Harley said.
I had been running 10.10 stably for a while. I even had the 2x5970 system (4 GPUs) humming along nicely on DNETC up until this recent fiasco. Try 10.10, or bump up and see how 11.2 treats you...
May not make a lick of difference but just as a comparison, what OS's are guys running?
Might be dumb question but did you reset the project DrPop?

Hold on. If all three of you guys are having issues with DNETC......
But wait a second. Maxwell, I thought your issue was a MW problem not a DNETC problem? I'm confused.... I'm going back over to Maxwell's post.
OS is Win7 Ultimate 64bit. I will look at exact driver version and see whether or not Collatz worked after I'm done seeing patients today.
Thanks for the help - not sure what is going on with DNETC, but as this is a fresh build, it could easily be on my end.:p

This is actually a general GPU crunching problem I'm having. MW reports clocks in their WUs, and Harley found some of my WUs that were reporting clocks well outside of what I thought I had...

Maxwell and I both ran DNETC. The problems started when we switched off DNETC to another project. Maxwell ran Collatz and I ran MW. We both got the BSOD. Maxell had been running DNETC for quite a while. I only ran it for a couple of hours (while MW was down). We have similar systems. I got mine working again and Maxwell hasn't. The common factor seems to be DNETC.
Hmm...something is really wrong at this point. I had a Collatz WU that was at 86% done and crunching for 7 hrs when I just checked it. Not good at all.
I suspended both DNETC and Collatz, so all it will be running is AndrOINC tonight on the x6 CPU.
Where should I go from here? Uninstall and re-install drivers? Older drivers? Do you think I need to detach and re-attach to the projects?
Also, the mobo I just got is 890FX chipset. If I uninstall the Catalyst drivers through the control panel, will it take my chipset drivers with it? Or does it leave those in? I'm curious how anyone else with AMD mobos and GPUs prefers to do the driver thing?

Uninstall drivers, run driver sweeper. Install 10.10. Run the WU, and check the GPU load in CCC after a few minutes - if it's not high, something is wrong...
OK...it's working, but I think it's still slow. What are your average times for a DNETC WU on the 5870?
For the record, I was using the latest 11.2 drivers - and no love there.
I uninstalled, booted to safe mode, ran driver sweeper, and then rebooted. Installed 10.12 drivers because that's what I had on my old build before the mobo burnt up, so I know they *should* work with my GPU.
CCC says 97% load on GPU, at 68 degrees, Fan speed at 28%. 5870 clocks are 900 / 450.
First DNETC WU completed with this setup was an ATI_5K_Gen2, and took 15:25 to complete.
Is that on target or do I need to do some tweaking?
I think I read something about DNETC handing out longer WUs now. Might run a few more and see if you get better results out of other WUs. That 5850 is taking 15:45 average. Good luck.

That is about what I was doing on my single 5870 box clocked at 900. I think you're right on.
Thanks Max, that sounds good then. I will leave it like this for the day and see what gives.

Not sure if 15:25 will be my avg, but if so, that 5850 is running less than 3% behind a full out O/Ced 5870! ;) Good bang for the buck, IMHO. =:)

Very much so and I thank you sir!! I am only sorry about your bad luck afterwards. :( If it was not for that, you might already be running your dual 5970s.
Ah, well, all in good time, I guess. It will still happen eventually, I think it's just teaching me patience! :D ;)
Just for the record, these older drivers - 10.12 - are cranking nicely. I don't know what might be different about the latest 11.2 set that keep a 5870 from crunching, but whatever it is, I hope they fix it in the next release.:p

Wondering if anyone has had a problem with the new release? (11.3) I'm still running at only 78% on both cards under 11.2 and will try 11.3. If that does not work, uninstall, sweep, install 10.12. I'll post my results.
