View Full Version : Aloha from Oahu, Hawaii!
Aloha!
NavyDT here, or Bryan Foster via facebook group. Thanks for the add and glad to be here. only recently started crunching Seti@home starting mid June of this year, I think I just hit 1.2 million credits. Sometime last month I learned that I could use my old antminer 2's to crunch some bitcoin utopia so got into that as well.
I'm a 30 year old father of 3 stationed at Join Base Pearl Harbor Hickam. Aside from my kids and wife my personal interests are Space, Technology, Aviation and Online Gaming. Really though, I am interested in EVERYTHING! if it can be done, im into it.
short list of things ive done or am actively doing :D Pottery, Blacksmithing, reading, writing, playing musical instruments, pen and paper gaming, amateur radio call sign AB7IR, metal detecting, geocaching, fishing, hiking, primitive crafts, archery, knife making, automotive repair, 3d printing, computer building and programming. im a Private Pilot, dental laboratory technician, combat medic, and a Sailor ( both military and personal )
I was looking for a larger community to participate in so that is why I decided on this group, as trolling around looks like we have some very interesting characters here. thanks again and well met all.
Very Respectfully,
NavyDT

Hello and welcome to our forums. Make yourself at home and enjoy. >:D<
Note: Until you have "x" number of posts under your belt, all posts will be moderated. IIRC x = 20. Sorry about that but we need to control spammers
Peace,

Welcome to the group. We have a great bunch of folks here willing to help with any questions and problems you may have. I hope that you have picked up on running wuprop@home as it is a non cpu intensive item that will give you and the team extra credit. (See forum front page to see where to locate it.) I also was a private pilot flying as a opereations and production manager for an oil company years ago. I held a private pilot SMEL-I and have flown just about all the American planes Cessna, Beech, Piper as well as some odd ones. The last one I was flying for the oil company was an AeroCommander 681B with the Century conversion.
Welcome NavyDT! I think we may find someone that may share an interest or two of yours. :D

Hi NavyDT Welcome, GPU works well with seti@home big credits.
Welcome NavyDT! You are correct about one thing ... there are definitely some characters here - interesting is yet to be determined =))
I too used to be a pilot although it was many years ago. Make yourself at home and if you have questions, all you have to do is ask.

Old age and no medical. I had my time in the air. I also spent about 7 years as a helicopter mechanic and crew chief in the Army so I got all the flying I wanted.

I remember the old H-21, H-13, H 19, H37, H34 UH1A, B, D, and converting the old D models from 44 foot blades to 48 foot before going over to Nam. I also worked on the Chinook and the Crane. The first Chinooks came to Ft. Benning in 1964 and werew nothing but trouble.

FYI Shithooks could fly faster than a Cobra but only in a straight line. :D The real "rulers" in those days were Chinooks know as guns a gogo. Would not want to be on the ground taking fire from one of them.

In 1970 our crew went from Ft. Eustis Va. to the plant where Chinooks were built in Pennsylvania. We picked up a brand new "Super" C model that had only 4 test flight hours on it and flew it to Oceana Naval air station near Virginia Beach. (First and only time I ever saw a complete set of "bonnie" wrenches :D)There it was outfitted with a special cargo hook. We and another crew flying a SkyCrane participated in a test program that involved flying out to ships anchored offshore and unloading cargo containers. We then flew them ashore and dropped them onto tractor/trailer trucks. The military was testing to see if they could do this in Nam. They thought it would expedite shipping around clogged ports. Don't know if it was ever implemented during the war but it sure was a neat assignment at the time.
