If KIC 8462852 really is harboring an advanced alien civilization, ought we to have seen something in existing radio surveys? Michael Garrett, director of ASTRON in the Netherlands, investigates:

Has anyone stated the obvious yet? This thing is 1,465 light-years away. Where it's possible that sometime in their history, they used radio signals.....if THEY really exist. Now lets take into account that radio waves don't travel at the speed of light. Let's take into account that a civilization could develop such a structure in a few hundred years or up to a few thousand after they started using radio waves. That signal, if there is a signal, is a long time off. It's best to listen for a few.....then go about other duties.....then check back once in a while. We know where it was when the light left that star. It's time to get that pencil going to figure out where it is NOW vs where it was before this sighting and plot a overall grid for future checks. After all, while you are busy waiting for a signal which traveling at a snails pace which may be a few hundred years away from it's early days. Not to mention, someone could be trying to call home right now but the signal is being missed due to the fascination of space debris around a star.

Hmmm. First thought that came to mind based on that image that was posted there is it looks like a shockwave from an impact on a cosmic scale. Kinda like the leftovers of a Jupiter sized body hitting the surface of our own sun. Must be a pretty poor representation of what he was trying to convey. And the period of the occlusion may be explained by the stars rotation rather than an orbit period. :)

But then, I'm no scientist and don't have all the data. :)

I am sure if they decoded TV images we will see a lot of Dukes in there.
