Interesting dave c. It reminds me of the trip I used to take many many years ago every Christmas traveling between Adelaide in South Australia and Perth, Western Australia. We crossed the Nullabor plains of 250 Miles of dirt road where there was nothing to be seen for 50 miles between each stop. I noted that you traveled on the left hand Side of the road most of the time as is the law in Australia. Having said that, it is interesting that I used to travel on the right side for that appeared to be more safe for if there was any traffic, you could see a dust cloud ahead and in an hour or so you actually met. I did that trip in my Vespa Motor scooter the first time I crossed before I upgraded to a BMW and later a Harley. When I got married, we traveled on that road in a VW beatle. They were air cooled motors in those days, no water required. I remember laughing at cars with their bonnet up in temperatures well over a 100. Nothing seems to bother the old VW.
they really arent roads for the most part , u can useally see the dust trails headed ur way like u say though, mostly i ride on the side that isnt rutted out or have to many big rocks on it , so u will see me go back and forth from side to side depnding on the condition of the road/trail

Yeah. Except if I was a Policeman that is not what I would be seeing. "Siren, siren, pull over driver." You have been observed by our overhead police helicopter that you were driving on the wrong side of the road. What is your excuse? I am giving you a ticket for common sense is no excuse...

some will prolly call me an a- hole but out here the cops dont patrol the trails and dirt roads , worst we get is the forest service/BLM and they cant catch us so we dont stop anyways , most of the time they are in f150's or on big utility quads , so they either cant go down the trials we can or they just dont have the speed to catch us

Living in Colorado I used to do a LOT of trail riding in the mountains. The forest service and BLM didn't even bother ... they knew better. :D

yeah the guys who have been around for a while dont bother, its the new hires though they will try to catch ya, they learn pretty quick though
ive only been stopped once and it was by highway patrol , i was riding back to the farm after lunch time and i was passing cars on the dirt on the side of the highway , theres a bike/ quad trail all the way down nexto the shoulder , anyways the speedlimit on the highway is 65 and i was blowing past cars at about 80 , he just told me to slow it down. not that he c ould have done anything there is no offroad speed limit lol
only reason i did stop is cause it was a real cop , and b i didnt wanna get harrassed inside town were they do patrol sometimes
