I've seen alot of natural disasters and never thought twice about it before. But for some reason seeing all the damage and disruption in Japan really hit home this time. Maybe I'm just watching the news too much. I found this on the Red Cross site if anyone's interested in helping them out:

"Those who want to help can go to www.redcross.org and donate to Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami. People can also text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific."

I sent my text today.

This is a post from one of our friends at TeaM Musketeers, posted on their boards:

A teammate of LAF has found that "Help Fight Childhood Cancer" is a japanese project

As it is my favorite project, I jumped on his idea and joined Team 2Ch for WCG

Edit : the idea has become an official action proposal of LAF. It is likely other teams will be invited to join

English translation for worldwide Boinc community
Following the tragic events that struck the Japan since 24 hours, in the name of all the members of L'Alliance Francophone, we would like to say our soldarity and support to all the Boinc Japanese users and by extension to all the people of the Japanese people. In this context, we encourage all AF members wishing to change, for a few days, their team membership on projects they are involved in to our friends of Team2CH, a Japanese Boinc team.

I've moved my laptop that is crunching WCG over to Team 2CH for the time being as a small show of solidarity. FYI...

This is a great idea... I did a little research at Androinc and found Team 2ch there.

'2ch' is Japanese Internet forum that have very wide topics, and it is the biggest in Japan. People who sympathize with volunteerism in '2ch' belong to this team.
We are just a pickup team, there is no "leader" or something like that.

What I did not expect was finding user T.H.@jisaku (http://androinc.net/hosts_user.php?userid=3966) and the last contact time on his account. 11 Mar 2011 | 14:58:26 UTC (http://androinc.net/hosts_user.php?userid=3966)

I wish the best for all of them.

Oh man. That is like a digital signature of the tsunami. I hope he is one that made it!

Hopefully, it's just from electricity going down.

EDIT: In fact, from the CNN timeline (http://articles.cnn.com/2011-03-12/world/quake.tsunami.timeline_1_nuclear-power-plants-fukushima-prefecture-international-atomic-energy-agency?_s=PM:WORLD), that's about the time 4 power plants were shut down.

9:35 PM

4 nuclear power plants closest to the quake are shut down.
