I was fortunate enough to find a buyer at work for my AMD 1090T and motherboard!!

As a result, I had more than enough $$$ to order the following equipment to replace my fastest computer with something even more powerfull!

Here it is:
ASUS KGPE-D16 Amd Opteron Server Motherboard Dual Socket G34 :-bd
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003JTHOB2

I also ordered a single AMD Opteron 6128 8-core Magny-Cours 2.0GHz Processor.

Do you think the motherboard will operate with just one AMD Opteron?

My Xeon builds in the past worked just fine. Hoping to replace the 8 core with the new 16 cores coming out llater this year. I am doing this just to get it running until then.:-ss:-ss

Thanks for any advice! I was already told by several members that my AMD C32 idea was misguided so I am hoping that you might have some more suggestions for my current plans as well.

Don't have any suggestions, but I will congratulate you on the new build. Sounds awesome!

Keep in mind if you're using Winblows, you'll at least need the Professional version of Vista/7 to run 2 CPUs. Home edition will not.

Will be running machine in corporate IT dept. as a failover machine, as a result Windows Server 2003 Enterprise 64bit Edition will be on the minds of electrons in this box.;)

Trying to find a suitable cpu cooler though.

Looking at the Thermaltake CLS0017: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?S=1360&ID=2019

Trying to plan out my build this weekend and I just realized that the Crucial Technology BL25664BN1608 2 GB Ballistix 240-pin DIMM DDR3 PC3-12800 8-8-8-24 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR3-1600 1.65V 256Meg x 64 Memory
(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0021AEN5U) that I ordered may not work in the motherboard due to voltage limitations!:((

The ASUS KGPE-D16 motherboard can only product up to 1.35VDC for the memory.

Do you think that I will be able to use this 1.65VDC memory?

Is the voltage rating on the memory chips just a reference value for achieving the peak frequency rating?

THANKS FOR ANY INPUT YOU CAN PROVIDE!

The Dual Socket G34 motherboard is running now with a 64bit OS and 8Gb of Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3 @ 1333Mhz (could not make it go 1600Mhz, yet).

AMD Opteron 6128 8 core processor Crunching At Androinc (http://androinc.net/show_host_detail.php?hostid=6555)

Will install the second cpu later next week after first few days of results come through.

Crazy builds people are doing! And I thought I was over the top with mine..

For max credits, right now its all about GPU's. My GTX 570's are pulling in around 600,000 points a day each on Primegrid.

My 1090T amd six core does about 24k on androinc.

Gpu's are top dogs now a days. the days of CPU's being king are long long gone.

Using the old benchmarking utility Mbench V1.0, I got a 25% memory bandwidth boost by installing four more memory chips on my AMD dual G34 motherboard. Now have a total of eight 2Gb 1600Mhz memory chips on CPU 1 in the board.:D

Wonder if I will get an additional speed boost by installing the second CPU and eight more memory chips on this beast?

Will this decrease my Androinc WU processing times?

Only time will tell the complete story. Glad I am upgrading in stages though. These statistics are an invaluable way of determining which areas can be improved upon in these AMD G34 processors.
