Any idea which one will do more work? The cost basis is about equal. I am terrible at this kind of research and would appreciate any help or thoughts you have.

This is a tough one. In theory, the 560ti X2 should smoke the 580 in credits per day on something like DiRT, etc. There are just more shaders there, more raw HP if you will. However, it's going to show up in the operating system as 2 "separate GPUs" like Z says there. So, on weird apps like POEM, where you can't seem to run 2 GPUs in one rig on it...well, there might be some issue there.
Just in a numbers comparison:
560ti = 1263 GFLOPS (x2) = 2526 GFLOPS @ 340W (each 560ti burns 170W)
580 = 1580 GFLOPS @ 244W.
So the numbers are quite lopsided in the 560ti X2 favor as far as sheer processing power, and hence greater credits / day - but it may depend on the projects you want to run.
Thank you both for your insight. I am going for raw processing power at this point. So for the price point I think the 560ti 2win wins. It is going in my server so losing a cpu for the extra credits won't be a big deal.
A 560ti 2win is faster than a 580. But yeah it's like Z said, it will use more CPU cores since you're essentially feeding 2 GPUs with the 2win. But i guess the question is, is losing an extra 0.4 cores (or however much it is in your case) going to reduce your CPU output by more than your GPU output will cover. For example, losing that ~0.4 cores could cost you ~3k CPU credits/day (or whatever). But would the 560ti 2win get more than 3k credits/day above a 580? I think so. So then you're not really losing any credits from losing an additional piece of a core.
Iirc, the 560ti 2win outperforms a 580 by 3%. Pretty sure 3% of the output of a 580 is more than an entire day's output from a CPU core.
Besides that, the 560ti 2win is more leet :D Get that :p
another thing to consider...
On some projects (not sure how many) you can tell a project to restrict GPU usage by GPU #. So if you are running two GPU projects what allow this you can then tell project #1 to use only Nvidia GPU 0 and project #2 to use only Nvidia GPU 1.
560TI 2win ordered! Thanks for all the welcome advice and insight.
Alright! That's a great upgrade. :) What is it replacing? Hard to go wrong with that much GFLOPs for the price.
