Re: What are you listening to?
I've lived and loved Led Zeppelin for the last 25 years. Too bad I was born 10 years too late and didn't see them live.
Actually, I just saw Robert Plant in Columbus on Monday. Great show.
zombie, did you just compare Travis Barker to Bonzo? OMG, please don't do that again. :-q Bonzo was the BEST,man! :)

How can I love Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or Ludwig van Beethoven or Johann Sebastian Bach or... Damn I arrived too Late. Music is a written feelling that stays forever. Music is our logical brains deeling with feelings. Is love, hate, happyness or sadness written as mathematical equation. So beautifull Mozart as written "e=mc2" and Einstein as composed The Symphony in D (after 'Posthorn' Serenade, K.320). That is way I love music all music of all times. Because music was my first love and it will be my last...

This is another of my all time favorites, though it's not music, it deserves a listen. I think you'll like it! I think this particular video was very well done. Keep in mind that the original recording came out in the mid 50's......

Very good nice idea. And the interpretation is very good. Something on the level of Monty Phyton with zero money. Yeha I liked a lot thanks for sharing.

My Uncle was watching "So You Think You can Dance?" in the front room when I heard this amazing female voice singing. Discovered the voice belonged to the lead singer of Florence and the Machine. I had never heard of them before but the song, Cosmic Love, blew me away. Now there is a new band on my must have CD list :)
Check out the original video

You can also see the live performance from So You Think You can Dance on Hulu here. Just fast forward to minute 32:00 of the show.

Damn sharp lyrics!
All the late night bargains have been struck
Between the satin beaus and their belles
And prehistoric garbage trucks
Have the city to themselves
Echoes roars dinosaurs
They're all doing the monster mash
And most of the taxis and the whores
Are only taking calls for cash
I don't know how it happened
It all took place so quick
But all I can do is hand it to you
And your latest trick
My door was standing open
Security was laid back and lax
But it was only my heart got broken
You must have had a pass key made out of wax
You played robbery with insolence
And I played the blues in twelve bars down Lover's Lane
And you never did have the inteligence to use
The twelve keys hanging off my chain
I don't know how it happened
It all took place so quick
But all I can do is hand it to you
And your latest trick
Now it's past last call for alcohol
Past recall has been here and gone
The landlord finally paid us all
The satin jazzmen have put away their horns
And we're standing outside of this wonderland
Looking so bereaved and so bereft
Like a Bowery bum when he finally understands
The bottle's empty and there's nothing left
I don't know how it happened
It was faster than the eye could flick
But not all I can do is hand it to you
And your latest trick

Best lullaby ever?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7no9Ak2uSrQ
Baby I see this world has made you sad
Some people can be bad
The things they do, the things they say
But baby I'll wipe away those bitter tears
I'll chase away those restless fears
That turn your blue skies into grey
Why worry, there should be laughter after the pain
There should be sunshine after rain
These things have always been the same
So why worry now
Baby when I get down I turn to you
And you make sense of what I do
I know it isn't hard to say
But baby just when this world seems mean and cold
Our love comes shining red and gold
And all the rest is by the way
Why worry, there should be laughter after pain
There should be sunshine after rain
These things have always been the same
So why worry now
And best alternate cover ever?

Re: What are you listening to?
Most vivid rendering of a childhood memory, combined with the best vocals and live performance ever? I can see the old man, the little girl listening, sneaking the treats...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4pE9-_gL88
The man in 119 takes his tea alone.
Mornings we all rise to wireless Verdi cries.
I'm hearing opera through the door.
The souls of men and women, impassioned all.
Their voices climb and fall; battle trumpets call.
I fill the bath and climb inside, singing.
He will not touch their pastry
But every day they bring him more.
Gold from the breakfast tray, I steal them all away
And then go and eat them on the shore.
I draw a jackal-headed woman in the sand,
Sing of a lover's fate sealed by jealous hate
Then wash my hand in the sea.
With just three days more I'd have just about learned the entire score to Aida.
Holidays must end as you know.
All is memory taken home with me:
The opera, the stolen tea, the sand drawing, the verging sea, all years ago.

I wasn't laughing properly, when you were talking to me
I didn't find it funny, your story didn't do it for me
False conversations, false conversations
And you thought that I was joking when I said you were a moron
When I said it I was smiling, so you thought that I was joking
It's easy, to try. It's easy, any time
We can talk, if we like
Let's forget it for the meantime
False conversations, a waste of time, false conversations
It's not interesting to have false conversations
You've stolen all your stories and I don't have the patience
It's easy, to try. It's easy, any time
We can talk, if we like
Let's forget it for the meantime
It's easy, to try. It's easy, any time
We can talk, if we like
Let's forget it for the meantime
You are a decent person and you have a function
So why do we say hello? It's just a fashion that we follow that we should be forgetting
But then you do it again, you do the same again
You are a decent person and you have a function
So why do we say hello? It's just a fasion that we follow that we should be forgetting
It's a fashion that we follow that we should be forgetting
It's a fashion that we follow that we should be forgetting
But then you do it again, you do the same again
It's easy, to try. It's easy, any time
We can talk, if we like

i need you to be here with me,

but when we're driving in my malibu,
it's easy to get right next to you.
i say, "baby, scoot over, please."
and then she's right there next to me.
i need you here with me,

Re: What are you listening to?
Los Lobos is one of the most talented bands out there. Simply amazing. I saw them up at what used to be the Paul Masson winery in Saratoga, about 20 years ago. Damn, what a magnificent setting. Only room for several hundred at the time. They killed. Three encores, but not enough. See, this was just after La Bamba just came out. And they did the soundtrack for that, even though that wasn't their kinda stuff. So on the fourth encore, they finally played the damn song, just to make the crowd happy.
This particular song is of a memory of one of the members as a very young child at home. All the sights and smells, and a stained glass window.

Hammer and a nail
Hammer and a nail
Saint behind the glass
Holds a hammer and a nail
Baby in his arms
Baby in his arms
Saint behind the glass
Has a baby in his arms
Watches me sleep
Watches me sleep
Saint behind the glass
Watches me while I sleep
Coffee in the air
Coffee in the air
Saint behind the glass
Smells coffee in the air
Curtains blowing 'round
Curtains blowing 'round
Saint behind the glass
Sees the curtains blowing 'round
Night upon my head
Night upon my head
Saint behind the glass
Lays night upon my head
Mother don't cry
Mother don't cry
Saint behind the glass
Tells mother not to cry

I said "Mama, he's crazy and he scares me
But I want him by my side
though he's wild and he's bad
and sometimes just plain mad
I need him to keep me satisfied"
I said "Papa, don't cry cause it's alright
And I see you in some of his ways
Though he might not give me the life that you wanted
I'll love him the rest of my days"
Misguided angel hangin' over me
Heart like a Gabriel, pure and white as ivory
Soul like a Lucifer, black and cold like a piece of lead
Misguided angel, love you 'til I'm dead
I said "Brother, you speak to me of passion
You said never to settle for nothing less
Well, it's in the way he walks,
it's in the way he talks
His smile, his anger and his kisses"
I said "Sister, don't you understand?
He's all I ever wanted in a man
I'm tired of sittin' around the T.V. every night
Hoping I'm finding a Mr. Right"
Misguided angel hangin' over me
Heart like a Gabriel, pure and white as ivory
Soul like a Lucifer
Black and cold like a piece of lead
Misguided angel, love you 'til I'm dead
He says "Baby, don't listen to what they say
There comes a time when you have to break away"
He says "Baby there are things we all cling to all our life
It's time to let them go and become my wife"
Misguided angel hangin' over me
Heart like a Gabriel, pure and white as ivory
Soul like a Lucifer
Black and cold like a piece of lead
Misguided angel, love you 'til I'm dead

Her green plastic watering can
For her fake Chinese rubber plant
In the fake plastic earth
That she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber plans
To get rid of itself
It wears her out, it wears her out
It wears her out, it wears her out
She lives with a broken man
A cracked polystyrene man
Who just crumbles and burns
He used to do surgery
For girls in the eighties
But gravity always wins
It wears him out, it wears him out
It wears him out, it wears him out
She looks like the real thing
She tastes like the real thing
My fake plastic love
But I can't help the feeling
I could blow through the ceiling
If I just turn and run
It wears me out, it wears me out
It wears me out, it wears me out
If I could be who you wanted
If I could be who you wanted all the time
All the time...
All the time...

There's only need
I love your need
So much I'm losing me
I cannot see the reason for the pain
With hungry joy
I'll be your toy
Just hoping you will play
Without hope my body starts to fail
Memories fade but the scars still linger
Goodbye my friend
Will I ever love again
Memories fade but the scars still linger
I cannot grow
I cannot move
I cannot fell my age
The vice like grip of tension holds me fast
Engulfed by you
What can I do
When history's my cage
Look foward to a future in the past
The more I talk
The more I say
The less you seem to hear
I'm speechless in a most peculiar way
Your mind is weak
Your need is great
And nothing is too dear
For you to use to take the pain away
Memories fade
No don't pretend you can justify the end
Memories fade but the scars still linger
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C47KpadwtI
It's a sad affair
When there's no one there
He calls out in the night
And it's so unfair
At least it seems that way
When you gave him his life
And all this time he's been getting you down
You ought to pick him up when there's no one around
And convince him
Just talk to him
Cos he knows in his heart you won't be home soon
He's an only child in an only room
And he's dependant on you
And it seems so strange
That at the end of the day
Making love can be so good
But the pain of birth
What is it worth
When it don't turn out the way it should

They call you lady luck
But there is room for doubt
At times you have a very un-lady-like way
Of running out
Your on this date with me
The pickins have been lush
And yet before the evening is over
You might give me the brush
You might forget your manners
You might refuse to stay
And so the best that I can do is pray
Luck be a lady tonight
Luck be a lady tonight
Luck if youve been a lady to begin with
Luck be a lady tonight
Luck let a gentleman see
Just how nice a dame you can be
I know the way youve treated other guys youve been with
Luck be a lady with me
A lady never leaves her escort
It isn't fair, it isn't nice
A lady doesnt't't wander all over the room
And blow on some other guys dice
Lets keep this party polite
Never get out of my sight
Stick with me baby, Im the guy that you came in with
Luck be a lady tonight
A lady never flirts with strangers
Shed have a heart, she'd be nice
A lady doesnt't't wander all over the room
And blow on some other guys dice
Lets keep this party polite
Never get out of my sight
Stick with me baby, Im the guy that you came in with
Luck be a lady tonight

Fountains Of Wayne!
They are the band that you don't know that you know! You know? They are behind a lot of TV and movie songs, as well as doing their own thing. For example, one of the members wrote "That Thing You Do!", which is both a great tune and a fun movie. Check out their wiki page.

1) Queen / Freddie Mercury: One of the best bands ever.
2) Freddie Mercury: One of the best voices ever. Seriously. The man did his thing effortlessly. And this is not just studio, I am talking about live too. Few sound as good live as they do in the studio.
3) Yeah, the song made it into pop culture via Wayne's World. But that's only because it was damn good from the beginning. This live video is really worth the time spent.
