Re: New "Deals and Savings" Thread
Well... good to see you can start to get close to or under MSRP again, even with a few hoops, but still not quite enough to bite. Keep posting though and I'll find the right deal someday Toto! Some day. I've been trying to wait to lay hands on a card with good DP precision so I can effectively run apps like MWay. My guess is I should keep waiting for a 7970GE with its 1/4 DP cut versus the 290 with its 1/8, if I can ever find a not-melted used one at a good price again.
Or, you know, buy Tank's Titan...
Re: New "Deals and Savings" Thread
Samsung EVO SSDs, lowest prices i've ever seen. Newegg also has them for similar prices: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...150_em_1p_0_ti
All capacities from 120GB to 1TB are discounted. The 250GB is now $20 cheaper than what i paid for mine during a black friday special, which was a good deal even then :/
Re: New "Deals and Savings" Thread
Thanks John! I picked up a 120 to use as a boot drive on one of my crunchers.

Sorry guys but I'm still in the "Avoid this Tech" camp. MLC NAND Flash Memory has huge trade-offs in terms of longevity.
Re: New "Deals and Savings" Thread
That's true, but at the rate we burn through hardware upgrades, I'm not planning on these puppies to need to last me too long. ;)
Re: New "Deals and Savings" Thread
As i've mentioned before, writing 10GB/day everyday won't kill these drives for 13.7 years. I have no problem with that. As a matter of fact, i just checked and i've only written 1.81TB to the drive since installing it the first week of december. It is the main drive on my 3770K Marshal with the 4 GPUs. My actual speeds with the 250GB version are 552MB/s read, 535MB/s write. So much for those other brands whose speeds drop off after a few weeks of use. 120GB version will be a bit slower. 500GB and up will be about equal.

True but reading from any NAND also chips away at it life. And all versions of Windows are notorious for the exorbitant number of reads and writes performed even for mundane background tasks. Atm, I cannot give you any I/O stats from my SSD, as my desktop is out of action, but I now it's a lot higher then yours.... :P

Speeds higher how? Only way to get any faster throughput than that is to get more than one and put them in RAID or get a PCIe SSD. Those speeds pretty much cap SATA 3 bandwidth.

No no no.... not speed. I was referring to usage as in reads and writes, to and from. I do a ton of streaming, photo editing, etc... And it all gets dumped on the SSD. Last month we almost hit Comcast's data cap of 250GB. And that's not too much higher then our average. Most of that activity is my doing. Yes I know my mini garden of crunchers accounts for some of that, but it's a relatively small percentage. Oh and btw, thankfully Comcast has had the data cap on my Uncle's account suspended for quite some time. #:-s
