So you want the team to be more competitive?
Put your windows machines on this project....NOW. Our competition is surely doing that. The credits/hour are crazy high!

Put 4 cores on it to test the waters.

They have a 64bit linux app as well, and the project is available in BAM.... put some cores on to check it out!

I don't feel good about hacking proprietary hardware, but as long as it's for science, I'll throw a dual core on it.
Drooooiiid [..]

Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
I'm on but from looking at the numbers, The credits don't seem so high. I must be missing something.

I am getting 290 credits per hour. What are you getting?

I was getting about 2k/hour on an AMDx6 at 3.2GHz...
-
Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
I have run 6 wu's on my i7-920. 4 finished with an avg run of 2,905.11 seconds for 115 stones each. The other 2 errored out.

To be clear, my 290 c/h was per core. Not per CPU.
Whoops. Looks like they just increased the running time with the new tasks. The credits increased too, from 29 to 115. Ah well. Credits are still very good, but no longer crazy stupid awesome. Tthe early adopters won a bonus this time. ;)

I figured that... ;)
I've been on this for 25 hours now on the Silver Hammer, and that machine alone has 50k credits. To give you an idea of this awesomeness...

Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
Alright; paused Almere and will try this for a bit. If it can match AQUA (nothing ever seems to) I'll be happy. ;)
-
Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
There apparently is no checkpointing. I stopped boinc about halfway through some tasks to remove my Primegrid app_info file. Started boinc back up Droid is back to 0. They're no going very fast. I hope the credits are worth it.

Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
Hmmm...what OS and CPU are you using? On an AMD PhenomII 810 quad core O/C @ 3GHz, running Windows 7 64bit, mine are showing about 25% completed after only 9 mins!
EDIT: The O/Ced AthlonII quad @ 3.6GHz is doing even better - 50% after only 14.5 mins!
-
Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
Just to be clear. Up until the release of the new app about 6 hours ago, tasks ran about 5 minutes and paid 29 credits. It looks like the project has since released tasks that run much longer, and pay 115. So you can tell which tasks you have by what they pay.

Well, I knocked out 100k today on less than half my machines. Something I could never do with Aqua...

If you're talking to me, Gentoo Linux, of course. 64bit dual core running at 1.8GHz.
Edit: Getting the dreaded validate errors, going back to eon.

I to am getting validate errors. And one of my P4s cannot crunch it at all. Every wu gives a computation error after 1 or 2 seconds of crunching. :((

Yeah, the linux app is not baked yet. That's why I said, "Put your windows machines on this project." Even the windows app spits out the occasional validation error. But with the crazy credits this this was paying, it was well worth it.

Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
FYI, they updated the linux apps today. Perhaps they fixed the problem.

Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
Yeah these new long WUs arent paying as much. Looks like Primegrid PPS Sieve is still the best for 64 bit CPU.
Also, DNET is trying to bruteforce a 72 bit key and it's 1.3% complete right now. This project is trying a 1024 bit key! I hope they're not bruteforcing too, this could take a while lawl.

Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
Just read their boards and the high credits per are here to stay. Also, they claim there will be GPU work for this project in about a month.

That is what they said. But since then, the credits have dropped significantly. The task run time has increased, and so has the credits awarded. But not by as much. So we are making less c/h now. Still very good! But not as good as it was.

Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
I must concede, you have finally found me a CPU project that perhaps pays better than AQUA. It looks like it will, I just want to run it a few days before I give it the crown. ;)
I may just have the perfect combination of hardware and software for this project, (AMD Quads running Win7 64bit), but I have no errors or invalid WUs since 10PM last night. So, in 12 hours, my 2 quads have pumped out over 20K credits. That's pretty huge for CPU power.

I am rigth there also....I am closing in on 2.000 CS in just 2 hours of crunching!! According to my math....WE COULD DOMINATE THIS PROJECT!

Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
Has anyone seen their stats exported?
Thanks, Ger
-
Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
They exported yesterday, but it seems the xml files there haven't been updated. They've got a thread about it in there forums, so they are aware...
-
Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
We could dominate this project if some of the big CPU crunchers like Hankey, Mumps, CB, Dr. Bob, etc...could get a quick jump on it. (If they want to, of course). With the crazy CPU power this team has, it could be a nice #1 for us.
-
Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
I seem to be having major problems with this project I have been crunching on 16 cores for hours and have only gotten a little over 500 credits. :(
Looking into the issues further and remembering someone saying there are no recovery points, I found the problem. I had WU's running for over 6 hours and were only half way done.
I set the CPU usage restrictions from their default 25% to 0 and it looks like this is going to solve the problem.

Re: So you want the team to be more competitive?
Looks like the 1.01 linux 64 bit app had validation errors. they released a 1.02 app make sure you abort your 1.01 WUs and get the new app. I got crap for credit due to the validation issues so far.

It seems to be working for me now. Before, everyone was saying how wonderful this new project was with credits and I felt like I was having a Charlie Brown Halloween... "I got a rock."

Well, I went all in on it yesterday and found the Linux 1.01 app was not very well baked. I'll try to reset those systems and see if they start doing better credits (AKA producing something other than Invalids...) later tonight.
