DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
I am pleased to announce that we will be hosting our first project challenge!Rainbow Resurrection: 2012-04-07 16:00:00 GMT - 2012-04-10 16:00:00 GMTThis 72 hour challenge will feature Primegrid style user and team statistics and only work handed out after the start time and return before the completion time will be counted. In addition all WUs that are part of the challenge will receive 1.25x the credit that is received ordinarily. The reason for this challenge is two fold:1) The new hardware has been performing excellently and is averaging less than 20% utilization2) An ATI/OpenCL app version is in early alpha stages and this challenge will be helpful in seeing if we can handle full 24/7 CPU+GPU where ATI will be added in the future.

Robert, from PNT, says his 7970 gets 1.1M per day on the new ATI app!!!! Pays much better than Donate.

Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
Sweet!!! Let me know if you can get it working and if it will work on a 5870
-
Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
580 does a task in about 1300 seconds.
7970 does a task in 530 sec. :D
5870: First task has a validate error.
Where is the discussion for this on the distrrtgen forum? I can't find it.
-
Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
Z, it is somewhere under a thread you have to have been approved to view. Normal peons don't have access ;) Send a PM to Robert at the Polish National Team and he can add you to the thread. He needs your forum login name ... not password.
He said a GTX 680 does better with the OpenCL app but the GTX 5xx do better with the old app. You can either download NVidia wu (if you have a cuda card in the machine) and then using the app_info you can get the ATI and NVidia to both crunch.
You can also install an app_info that downloads CPU tasks and crunches them on the ATI ... you use this method if you don't have a Cuda card.
They recommend 12.1 drivers (or higher) and that is why I can't try it. My machines are loaded with CAT 11.5 and I won't be back home for another 3 weeks. I'm afraid to try a driver uninstall/install remotely.

Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
Thanks for the forum info. I will PM him.
As for downloading ATI tasks, all you need to do is select them in preferences. You may also need to select test apps too. Not sure as I did both at once, and I have ATI apps now. Those options may be very new.

Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
For the 5870s, I got nothing but validate errors. So I upgraded from 12.1 to 12.3, and now my machine is locked up. It is remote, so it will be a day or two before I can figure the problem.

Sorry to hear. I'll wait to see how you make out.
Thanks Z,

Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
Tried out the 3850 and got no new task... Was really hoping there would finally be a decent project for this card but they are always trying to throw us old folks out... :-q

Thanks Z,
Ditto.

Well, I rebooted the box, and returned a valid task. Still 12.3. So I went back home, checked in via VPN, and it's locked up again. Grrrrr. I think it is happening when it suspends a task, to work on another project's task. I'll have to work on it some more on Monday.
FWIW, it took 2940 seconds.

Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
My 7970's are taking 510 - 520 Seconds to run the ATI Wu's ...
-
My 7970 is taking 520-530 sec. No OC, I think.

Mine are running at 1120-1125 Core speed so yours would almost have to be Overclocked ? to run at almost the same speed as mine unless they came at 1120-1125 Core Speed from the Factory ... Or it could be the Wu's just run that long no matter what speed the GPU's are running at , have no idea about that though ...

Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
Zydor posted some time ago that he was both overvolting and ocing to 1250 and I think his times were very similar to what you guys are seeing.

Last I knew he backed off from those Numbers, they wouldn't run Stable enough & to many errors. From what he's told me he's running about 1210-1220. That's still higher than me but mine won't run that high, any thing over 1125 Core & I get to many errors, reboots & just plain hang ups so I stay with 1120-1125. They seem to run okay there, they'll run higher for awhile but like I said to many problems on my Cards anyways ... Another thing is there's very little difference in run times from 1125 to 1225, I might gain a few seconds at best, so for me I don't see any point in trying to get them to run higher ...

Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
so this started already right?
-
Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
Yeah, I think so. I am a bit late to join.
-
Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
I'm not even showing up in the stats yet........ :((
Is anyone getting ATI work? Dirt is reporting no work available.
-
I can't get any ATI work either. Put my ATI's back on Donate.
-
Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
I get plenty of ATI.
Make sure you are using 7.0.25 version of BOINC. Make sure you have selected "ATI" and TEST" in your project preferences.
-
Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
I'm not getting any ATI tasks either and I have selected both "ATI" and "TEST".
boinc 7.0.25
driver 12.1.

What driver version are you using?

Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
I just got more ATI Wu's to all my ATI Box's ...
-
Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
...AND I forgot to purge my cache. Ah well.
-
Looks like you purged it into your total. Last time I looked you were at 10000, now over 700000...geez, what ya running Z?
-
Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
Heh. I am running only a portion of my GPUs. Just the nVidia GPUs, which are:
1x 580
2x 590
1x 560Tix2
2x 8800
My ATI boxes are being used elsewhere for a while.

Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
So, here is what Boinc is detecting.
4/7/2012 9:09:02 AM ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 6900 series (Cayman) (CAL version 1.4.1664, 2048MB, 2016MB available, 6912 GFLOPS peak)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it should say OpenCL and not just CAL.
I've done the reinstall routine with driver sweeper many times now and it's always the same. Any ideas on how to get this working with OpenCL?

huh. I thought I heard that 12.2 and later didn't include CAL, so I stopped at 12.1. I was worried that some gpu projects wouldn't work for me if I upgraded.

Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
A lot of power at this challenge. Someone is actually giving Ste\/e a run.

OK but the BOINC website only has 7.0.23 listed. Where do I get 7.0.25? Or can someone Upload it to mediafire.com and post the link so I can DL it?
NM, I found it ---> http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/?C=M;O=D

Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
They just bumped up the credits from 8,758.00 to 10,947.50 per task.

Al, do you mean your running 4 @ a time on your ATI Cards or just 4 Total ??? My ATI's are @ 95+ % Usage now so I don't think running more than 1 @ a time would help ...
NOTE: Is anybody getting CPU Work from the Project, I can't download any myself ...

I checked 'use cpu' at the project and I downloaded a few tasks. I don't run the cpu tasks so I better change it back.

Re: DistRTgen: First ever project challenge
I've only tested this on a few tasks, but it appears that reserving a thread for AMD GPU's here helps. My time was about 1 hour for my 6970 until I freed 1 thread, then it went down to 30 mins. 50% of the time. I'm assuming the tasks are uniform in length.
It's possible there were other factors affecting my pc, so if anyone else sees this, please let me know.
