Faster & Private DNS Servers For All
https://1.1.1.1/
From CloudFlare. This is not an April Fool's joke (i don't think). Setup instructions are at the link. There's nothing to actually install.
This should keep ISPs from snooping on your online activites and should make it very difficult for them to throttle speeds based on favoritism. DNSPerf, which performs worldwide speed tests on all DNS providers every minute has ranked this as the fastest DNS lookup provider in the world.
And free.
Also prevents ad-targeting and DNS's/ISP's from being able to profit off of your viewing habits.

Make sure to change your router settings as well (if applicable). Setup instructions are provided for routers, Windows, Linux, lolPhones, Android and Macs.
Re: Faster & Private DNS Servers For All
Thanks for sharing. Working fine for me.
Re: Faster & Private DNS Servers For All
It's working fine on this laptop also! :D
Re: Faster & Private DNS Servers For All
I set it at my router, and then have all my dhcp machines looking at my router for dns info.

I can't access the site. My guess is that ATT blocks it because they want you to use their DSN server.
Re: Faster & Private DNS Servers For All
If that’s blocked have you tried using google’s DNS? I’ve used that for years now.
8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 as secondary.

Why alternate DSNs are blocked from the ATT forum:
"Quick answer - you can't change the DNS server on the nvg589. A plausible explanation for why AT&T locked down this device, is because their native devices that connect to their router (like the DVR and VOIP adaptor) need the AT&T DNS servers to function properly."
There is a workaround available using a 2nd router and setting the ATT router to passthrough. I don't feel like messing with it at this point, but may in the future.

I do this because the cable modem/router combo I bought it at BestBuy and I own must run Spectrum's (TWC) firmware which is crap and is never up to date. So I use it for simple pass through and run a second one that I can control. If I had known that it can only their firmware which has never been as up to date as Netgear's firmware I would just bought a plain cable modem. That router is 192.168.0.1. The one behind it is 192.168.1.1 (WAN address 192.168.0.2) . I changed the DNS on 192.168.1.1 and worked fine. I changed the DNS on 192.168.0.1 and now I cannot access it from 192.168.1.* network.
