    Cruncher Down Bad CPU?

    About 2 months ago I upgraded my AMD based motherboard to an 8 core AMD FX-8300 CPU.
    I sold off the old CPU, a 6 core AMD FX-6100.
    Things went great until a day an a half into the Pentathlon.

    The machine is continually crashing and rebooting when under load saying it has an uncorrectable WHEA error.
    My research tells me that the CPU is throwing this error and crashing the system.
    Besides a defective CPU, other causes for the CPU to send this error could be an inadequate PS, bad RAM, and in rare cases a bad chipset driver.

    The only change to the system has been the CPU upgrade.

    The 750watt Corsair PS should be adequate since the CPU is rated the same 95 watts as the old one.
    I tested the RAM overnight with MemTest86 and all is well.
    Drivers are up to date and I reset the machine with a fresh copy of Windows 10.

    Still the WHEA crashes.

    I conclude I have a bad CPU.
    I bought it new but have used all the original packaging to ship my old used CPU I sold.
    I may just junk it rather than trying to return it.

    I'm thinking about getting a replacement CPU, but it might be in my better interest to get a newer MB/CPU combo.
    Preferably Intel. If it uses DDR3 RAM I can use what I have.
    I'm on a tight budget (and wife leash) and the AMD CPUs I can afford are just not worth the effort.
    I know Intel CPUs are more expensive, but I feel I can get more computing and power consumption bang for the buck at the lower end I can afford.

    I'm going to start trolling for used MB/CPU combos that take DDR3 RAM.

    The squirrels in my other 2 machines will continue to run on their wheels for the Pentathlon.

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Warranty claim. You shouldn't need the packaging for that! Check the pins, too, to make sure none are bent.

    I'll check into making a warranty claim.

    I had pulled the CPU, checked the pins and reseated it during the attempts to find a definitive cause.
    I also swapped and reseated the RAM.
    I started to check out some replacement prices, and a warranty claim attempt is looking a lot better at the moment.

    Thanks for the consideration. I appreciate it.

    I had considered upgrading to an FX-8350 originally but decided on the FX-8300 instead.
    The reasoning was that the FX-8350 CPU is rated as drawing up to 125 watts.
    I was told the my GA-78LMT-S2P motherboard could not really handle a 125 watt CPU.
    Therefore, I settled on the 95 watt FX-8300 since the original CPU was a 95 watt FX-6100.
    It was the top CPU listed as being fully compatible.

    I'm trying to tweak the BIOS settings incase the "Auto" settings are under volting the CPU under load.

    It says that those MB's will support the AM3+ FX chips (the 8350) with a bios update....
