    i7-8700k vs Ryzen 2700X?

    I am honestly conflicted.

    Pro AMD:
Cheaper $310 and includes HS (vs. $380 for Intel no HS)
    8/16 core/thread (vs. 6/12 for Intel)

    Pro Intel:
    Better AVX
    More PCIe lanes

My heart tells me to go with AMD, to support competition and to try something new. But my head says to go with intel, since we often crunch projects where AVX really helps.

    Help!

If you can wait a few more months for the 3rd Gen Ryzen I would suggest that, so far they look like they make take the crown back from Intel, even if only for a while.

How far behind is AMD's AVX at this point? Are they going to get that corrected in the 3rd gen Ryzen? If yes, probably worth waiting for it, but if not, I guess you have to look at how many projects you crunch have AVX WUs at this point. Is there a count of those? Maybe Bryan might know.

An announcement from AMD said they will be fixing AVX2 in the TR3 series and the FP performance will double.

My 2990WX works very well on AVX2 projects that don't run tight code. Performance on PG and SRBase really sucks compared to Intel.
