Why you should not buy a Mac (preaching to the choir here, yes, but amusing nonetheless):

    Re: If you like Apple...

IBM and other manufacturers have been doing this for years.

I recall in something like 2002, a client speccing out an upgraded RS6000 running AIX (4way 600Mhz I think) and looking at the breakdown of costs I remember just laughing at the cost of memory alone.

    4Gb Ram - $12,000

Total cost was actually - $160,000

I eventually persuaded this client to take our linux version of the software, even though it was new at the time, and I specced out two high end dual xeons for them which came to about $25,000 total and that includes a hefty overhead for onsite service.

    They've never looked back

AIX is the sadist excuse for a unix I've ever seen. Of course, my only experience thus far is Versions 4 and 5. I suspect 6 isn't much better, though. If I had to choose between AIX and Windows, I'd take Windows. That's how much I hate AIX.

This point becomes even more poignant when people remember what your license plate is...

v6 is much the same. I've never been much of a fan of AIX either. I dislike smit. Only one I hate more is HP-UX. Bring back Dynix, that was my favorite. I even got to visit the old Sequent HQ just outside Portland,Or before they were bought out by IBM.
