How do I install a HD5450 on a computer with Linux Ubuntu OS?

Ubuntu should have a "restricted driver" for it. Should be able to just install that. Look for fglrx or failing that radeon.

And just in case....

At the desktop screen goto the menu bar at the top and click System > Administration > Synaptic Package manager. In the window that opens look for test box labeled "Quick Search" and type in trigggl's suggestion fglrx.

It should something like this



Put checks in the boxes for fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle. Also if xserver-xorg-video-radeon is not already installed (green box) then add that to be installed.

I did that and it stopped working. I had to go Linux depuration system and uninstall it. Linux is quite difficult and I am only learning. Maybe something I am still doing wrong.

Any opinions on this? Only as information when I boot in the restart said I hadnt hardware enough to that configuration. I dont know if I stopped Ubuntu install in the midle since after a while I disconected monitor out of the HD5450.

Not very familiar with doing GPU's under Linux, but that one I know. The new (released and run by default in Ubuntu 11.04) Unity Desktop requires a better than average GPU. If you don't have your GPU drivers installed and activated as mentioned earlier, when you try to log in, you'll see a message that "dont have the hardware to run Unity" and it will switch you to the "Ubuntu Classic" Desktop. That's what was happening with my 9500GT until I figured out how to get the Nvidia drivers "Activated." Installed was only the first step.

I totally forgot about "Activating" the drivers. Goes to show you that I'm no Nix Guru.

Anyhow, to activate the video driver try this. At the desktop Menu click System > Administration > Hardware Drivers. A little pop-up window will appear saying "Searching for drivers. If it finds any another Window will appear.
