Re: PrimeGrid: The Dog Days of Summer Challenge

    Something is weird here !!!!!

PG's site has the countdown listed at 1 day and 9 minutes, while I started the PG WU within the first few minutes of the challenge and it shows elapsed time as 21 hours and 37 minutes.

How can 24 hours pass, with all but these WUs suspended in the queue, and the elapsed time being under 22 hours? The WU's are running "High Priority" in the queue, with FreeHAL, and WUProp running plus DiRT WUs "suspended" till the PG challenge is over.

The math makes it about 23 hours of run time needed to complete the WUs, and I thought I would have 2 sets of 4 WUs done by the end of the challenge. Now it looks like I will be short by a few hours with the second set.

The real concern it why the WUs have had elapsed time several hours less than their actual time being run on my computer's clock, and PG's countdown clock????

    Any ideas?

Now, I have not been able to get the PG WUs to upload.

I am at ready to report and I have "updated" PG several times, but it will not upload the finished challenge WUs.

I have 2 showing "ready to report" and 2 still running with an hour or so to go. I will most likely get these credited for the challenge, but maybe with the hurricane/tropical storm disrupting power and such PG will extend the time it will take finished WUs for this challenge.

I wonder how many credits we lost due to power outages from the Hurricane/Tropical Storm?

I heard that the figure could be in the millions of people that were out of power over the weekend after the storm went through their area. I think I saw some team members say something about hoping that their power will not go out, since it seemed they were in the path of the storm. How many of our team is on the East Coast along the path of the storm?

I never have seen prime hits......

    By the way
PG states the next project is WOO LLR. I never seen "WOO" abrev. before, but it should be a CW or something like that.

60 hours "average"? That would be more like 70-90 hours for most of us for each WU.
3-5 days per WU is not something that I would want to do solo. Bad enough got the last one that that claim 3.5 hours when it take over 20 hours CPU on my semi-fast machine. That average must have been all that GPU time averaged in.

At lease the next one is CPU only, for all of us that have only CPU crunching.

I probably shouldn't say anything because I don't really know for sure but I suspect our lower than usual finish was more the result of a deliberate action as in a protest of PG dropping credits awarded. Of course our 18th place finish severely impacts our previous 2nd place position in the 2011 PG Series Challenge. Question is are we going to keep the protest up? Help someone (Ukraine) challenge SIC? Help another US team (Navy)? Or take advantage of the situation (and key teams involved) to do something special for SUSA?

p.s. I was fortunate in my power didn't go out at all.
