Thread: 32bit Netbook, Which Linux OS Should I Choose?

  1. #1

Exclamation 32bit Netbook, Which Linux OS Should I Choose?

An Intel Atom N450 netbook was given to me because the hard drive failed and the owner does not want to pay for repair ($100 was my estimate).

The little netbook will be dedicated to PrimeGrid or whichever CPU project the team has me focused on.

I am very basic with Linux but like its speed.

So, I ordered an OCZ 60Gb SSD drive and was wondering which Linux OS should I install on it?

Please give me a link to the ISO that I should install (just makes my task easier tomorrow while getting a new cruncher online)!

Hmmmm. trigggl, the Mile High Cruncher! LOL..... Sorry I just had to

trigggl makes a good suggestion. Personally I do not like the current OS (11.10 aka Oneiric Ocelot) GUI. It is UGLY! Thankfully it can be changed.

Why 32 bit? N450 is 64 bit. Which ever linux you install, make it 64 bit.

Didn't bother to look into whether or not the hardware supported it.

If it's only function is dedicated cruncher, why not just do a Dotsch-ux install? It comes with boinc pre-installed and you can run it right off the disc to test it out before install.
