    AMD's Tenerife GPU

Tenerife is the name of up coming GPU chips to be used in AMD's 8950 and 8970 GPUs. *sigh* And from the looks of it, save your money unless upgrading from a 6000 series or older GPU.

As of March this year, compute tests conducted by AMD put the 8970 1.2x faster than a 7970. That's it. A mere 20%, even though it has 25% more shaders (2560 vs. 2048) and a 250W TDP.

Also 5.1 billion transistors instead of 4.31, an increase of 19%. Based on this smelling like a rebranding, i just have to yawn :/

Also the die size will be around 400mm^2, which is approaching Nvidia proportions.

Unfortunately March as recent as the data gets, though it was only recently made available. We can only hope they made some sort of progress since then.
