    Unzipping Software Free

    100% free and works in Windows 7 / Vista / XP / 2008 / 2003 / 2000 / NT / ME / 98. There is a port of the command line version to Linux/Unix here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/p7zip/files/

    Supported formats:
    Packing / unpacking: 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM
    Unpacking only: ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DEB, DMG, FAT, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MBR, MSI, NSIS, NTFS, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, VHD, WIM, XAR and Z.

    Better yet, it will zip > 2GB files whereas the Zip built into Win7 doesn't always read large zip files correctly. Then again, forget zip. The native 7z compression is tighter resulting in smaller files. There are several backup apps which now use the 7z format for the archives. I've been using 7-zip for several years and love it.

    P.S. I still have an original "registered version" PKZip 5.25 inch single-sided floppy disk in my archives from when it took over as "compression king" from arc. I wonder if it is worth anything to a collector....
