    Talking Hello Teammates!

    Hi team SETI.USA!

I remember being really into SETI and crunching back in college around 15 years ago, when my roommate and I raced each other to scrape together enough money to be the first with a 1 GHz desktop processor. My how times have changed. Like many people I had largely transitioned to cheap laptops/portables, which don't crunch all that well, until recently when I learned of the BOINC Android app.

Glad to be back with a better-than-ever desktop and crunching on any spare device I can get my hands on and (legally) throw to the cause. Greetings from the great Northwest (Go 'Hawks).

    Re: Hello Teammates!

Thanks. I've been eagerly reading through some of the tech threads you've commented in. I've still kept computers as a hobby for sheesh, what, 25 years now? My boss gave me carte blanche to store "*A* server" in the lab. I'm trying to figure out how to get the most bang for my buck off eBay without creating a monstrosity he considers "beyond reasonable". Studying reams on Xeon processors and Precision towers. The Muses patience, knowledge, and luck be with me. And advice from teammates.

Also have some questions about how efficient it is to juggle/balance projects (I didn't know they went down/suffered outages until one did), SP/DP work with the hardware I have, and how to spread the TDP and kWh I'm footing for most effectively. I'm not chasing points just for score, but would the tech forum mind if I posted my hardware and the projects I care about and gave me some advice about how I might best allocate resources or do advanced functions like configuring affinity/config files to make more of uptime? Next week's project is getting another machine I picked up cheap cranking. Good times, warm house.

    Hi finalfugue,
Good to see you back to crunching. It sure has changed a lot, today our RAM is larger than our HD's were back then.

You know... if we, as a team, did that for even a single day for each new team member, we could get them satarted with a couple million credits each!
