Some underground engineering sample testing seems to be showing Skylake has a 19.2% performance improvement over Haswell, clock for clock.
Yeah, I just meant that all their focus (rightly so for business reasons) has been on the mobile sector for several years now. We haven't seen any *real* gains since i7 Sandy Bridge territory was covered. They started work on S.B. in 2005, demoed it in 2009, and released i7 S.B. in early 2011.
Be nice if we could see another jump like that, being 4 years later.
Question, I'm looking at a 5960x build with;
Swiftech H240-X CPU Liquid Cooling kit
ASUS X99-Deluxe/USB3.1
G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 series 16GB memory.
This will replace my AMD x6 machine. Crunching and gaming is the key. I know it's pricey so is there any reason to wait for Skylake?
No. 5960X is better than Skylake, but Skylake will be cheaper. And it may be 6 months before any Skylake availability.
Skylake will still have just 4 cores / 8 threads, right? Even with almost 20% improvement - and we'll have to see how much of that actually materializes - no way it could beat a 5960X with double the cores. What a whomping CPU!
