For Ubuntu, try using the locutusofborg ppa to get the current 7.6.22 linux release of the client.
Hmmm...my post disappeared...I'm using 7.2.42 on all my vms without seeing any of the issues scole is seeing, so it might be another issue.

I have 7.6.22 running now. Enigma is the only project, resource share set to 8000, always run, always network, work buffer 10/10, 100% cpus...

Since nothing else has worked, you might try installing this version of Mint on a vm:
    http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=168

I know it works here. Also, get BM from the Software Manager on the startup page. I know this works also so if you still have problems you'll know what it isn't.

On a different machine, one that had a vm with ubuntu 14.04 server but wounldn't download work, I setup another vm with mint 17.3, installed boinc 7.2.42, ran the boincmgr, attached enigma and it got work. What the heck doesn't enigma like about ubuntu server? If it was just one system that couldn't get work I would assume it was specific issue with just that system but it doesn't like any of my ubuntu systems.

I don't know why the server edition doesn't work, but I'm glad the Mint did the trick. Guess you have some catching up to do on the bunkering, though I'd probably say it's too much work and would forget the bunker this time.

Well, all of my Linux hosts are Ubuntu 14.04, but they are the Desktop version, not Server. I wonder if there's a dependency that's not satisfied by the Server install. I chose not to go Server because of all the GUI dependencies that the Berkeley DL packages couldn't define, so it was just easier to go Desktop...

    Is that all? Greedy sucker

I guess I should have started earlier than I did ... bringing up the rear again -- except for once I might be ahead of Scole after the bunker bombs!
