Well, here's a little experiment in progress:

Dual AMD Opteron 2.6 Ghz Dual-Core

    So, 48.58 and 51.72 Credit/Core/Hour so far.

NOTE: And that's an Ubuntu 10.10, 64bit machine.

EDIT2: After 26 tasks, the average is currently 46.89345536 C/C/H which is about 4.5K daily for this machine. This machine had been getting 1.5K daily on Spinhenge.

For comparison, both my machines are 3 Ghz Intel dual core running Gentoo 64. Over 20 tasks they average 46.9 Credits/Core/Hour

I just ran several tasks with ubuntu 64 in a VM on my Mac Pro. It paid 52 c/h. I am installing a ubuntu 64 VM on a win box now, just to double check. Both machines are Intel Core2 Xeon X53xx machines.

But yeah, it looks like linux is the primary factor in getting ~3x the c/h. At least comparing win64 vs lin64. Not sure what a 32 bit version of either OS would do.

If no one else gets to testing an AMD box running XP x64 by this weekend I'll give it a look see. I will also test Ubuntu x64 on that box using my pen drive w/persistence. I have other team stuff that I've fallen behind on.......

    Re: Good credit at Mersenne

Update after I have 5-6 results from both machines. The two VMs are identical (ubuntu 64).

    OSX 10.6.6 w/ dual X5365 (3.0 ghz): 52 c/h

    XP64 w/ dual X5355 (2.66 ghz): 40 c/h

Not sure if the difference is purely due to CPU speed. That doesn't seem likely to account for such a large difference. Perhaps the underlying OS of OSX is more efficient in some way.
