Like I said, before, I do believe that BU has changed the landscape; however, some crunchers will adapt to the changing environment and use projects like BU to stay on top. As one of the top teams in the world… we have too; if we didn’t we would quickly lose our position to another team.

Look at what GPU’s did to the landscape… my (3) outdated GPU’s can run circles around most people running CPU only projects.

Just a fact of Boinc'n
I do agree with Doug on this, that you get more in return in credits, the more equipment you buy.

I believe that most people that start crunching do it for the science like I did back in October 2009. I had one computer and Einstein, Seti and Milkyway were my first projects; I didn’t even know about credits back then. A year later in November 2010 I found SUSA and got the credit bug… which by the way, I still blame all you guys for that little mental disorder.

All things being equal, a person with one computer will never catch someone running three. Will that discourage some… maybe. BU isn’t really any different it just makes the pie graph look rather odd.

Will I ever be number one in total credits on this team? Very unlikely but that doesn’t discourage me… it motivates me. Granted, I’m not a new cruncher anymore but I once was… crunchers evolve.

Edit: If anyone cares to discuss this further, I'll move it to a more appropriate thread. Let me know.
