Ah. Thanks. Let me sleep on the possibilities. . . I was not prepared to shell out more this month, but sometimes it just works that way. I doubt I will see a new one of these anywhere else. It is still more efficient than anything in the 6xxx series, or anything NVIDIA has to offer. I was considering waiting for the 7xxx series, but a new dual GPU card in that series will cost more than double this deal. Hmmm...![]()
Ah dang it all to heck, mate. It's 2 AM and you've got me up reading everything I can get my hands on. This is a major hard decision because 5970 new for $299 is a steal. But, the new 7000 series coming out very soon is supposed to have like 21+GFLOPS /Watt!
What to do...what to do...![]()
As always, I check my PM box everyday... hoping someone will offer me a used NVIDIA card.
Just my way of helping you heavy hitters upgrade!![]()
Just another little goldfish... steamrollin the competition one project at a time!

I would not buy this Card being it's a 59xx Card, I don't remember what but something about the 59xx Cards that made them unsuitable for BOINC, the 58xx & 69xx Cards are faster with a slight edge to the 69xx Cards ... If you go look at the MOO & Collatz Top Computers List you don't see any 59xx Cards, there may be some but their way back in the list if there is any ...
I know Bryan has a few of these and while not as effcient at Moo as 2 5870's it is taking up only one slot and will out crunch any single gpu card on Moo at this time. I think at this price it is something to consider. The newer cards will be much more, double or better when they come out.
Now for a sweet deal.

@ Steve - yeah, I understand what you're saying, and Bryan cautioned me not to buy a used one. But GFLOPS /Watt and GFLOPS /$$$, this is the best deal I've seen. You can easily O/C it to the speed of the 5870, because it's the same parts inside - just 2 sandwiched together. The issue is, they run hot, so from what I understand, you have to have really good airlow to run these things O/C and crunching 24/7. That's why I decided on that 10 slot Rosewill Thor V2 case; it had the lowest GPU temps in that Tom's test, due to the airflow.
But as you say, it is a slight risk over one of the newer ones, but surely they will be crazy expensive when they come out, at least initially!![]()
I hear you, been mulling over it all day whether to get a few myself or not, very tempting but with the Newer Models on the Horizon I just don't know. At the worst I'm thinking I could sell them for what I paid for them if not for more in 6-8 month's for the price their selling for. I'd have some GTX 460, 470 & a 480 for sale if I bought some if anybody was interested in them, if not I'll just put them up on Amazon where I have a sellers Account already ...
EDIT: I broke down & ordered 4 of them before they ran out, needed a few more ATI Box's anyway so the deal was to good to ignore ...![]()
