Thanks JPM. I wonder if they will still be "reasonable" when they release the 6 and 8 core models.
From what i understand, the 6 and 8 core models will only be released on socket 2011. Those listed above are for socket 1155, which is what the current sandy bridge CPUs use. So it's looking like the i7-3770K will be the best possible CPU for socket 1155, which is basically a more efficient i7-2600K. After this, you can pretty much bet the socket is done with
Update
Looks like Ivy Bridge will be available soon ---> Industry sources say Ivy Bridge will launch Monday, April 23
Darn I was really hoping with the die shrink they would let a 6 core show up for the 1155 but i guess the increase in gpu power stunted that ability ugh... Well then i guess ill be looking at the larger socket meaning longer wait times ugh.... Any info on ivy release for the 2011
ok that is shocking news, looks like ill be holding on to the 2600k was really looking to upgrade to the 2011 socket but at this point i dont see any reason to do it, except for trying to do quad crossfire.
Honestly just more proof to me that GPUs with huge parallel processes are the future of high-end crunching and CPU is really eventually going to be the servant of the GPU, feeding it WUs as fast as it can. I think of the GPU like the old Co-processor was in the days of 386 and 486 CPU dominance, only a giant one.
Bring on BETTER, more efficient chipsets, more and faster PCI-e type lanes for GPUs, and we'll all be happy.
