    Re: I7 build

Looks like a new cooler is in stock for the I7. I can't run it anymore then stock speed and 100% on Boinc with out it going up to 80 degrees. I have a water system that I am going to see if I can adapt from the LGA775 CPU to this one. The LGA1155 has the holes a little farther apart so I will have to look at all the adapters and see if I have the right one.

I hate to spend the money on a good CPU only to find out that as usual Intel's cooling sucks.

Ha, sooo true. BTW, Intel will not be including a cooler for any Sandy Bridge-E CPUs. They instead are selling a separate closed loop water cooling solution. Can't wait to see how they Fubar that!

If you are using a Corsair H series cooler you should be able to find brackets for it on eBay or on Corsair's website.

I have an older Thermaltake water cooler that I had mounted on the bottom of my case but I will have to do a lot of changing because the 2x GTX 465s take up all that space now. And I am using a Thermaltake Shark full tower case. Just no room with those cards in it. I've got the side panel off now and am trying to engineer a way to put the tank, pump and hoses in now but it doesn't look good. Might have to look into an air cooler.

Hey, have you considered using a drive bay mounted tank. I have seen some with built-in regulators but don't recall who made them. Anyhow it would free up a lot of case space.

I've seen some of those and will have to consider one. I am just getting frustrated that I can't get anymore HP out of this thing on air and I have great cooling on the case. I think I am going to play around with that first.

    Re: I7 build

The I7 now has a new cooler. I installed a CoolerMaster V6 GT cooling system Those 2x 120 MM fans sure make a big difference in the temps. I am now running at Extreme in the bios and 100% on Boinc and getting temps of 67-68 c.

    Re: I7 build

Sweet! I'm glad you found a good solution.

If you ever decide on a new case then consider getting one that will accept at least 140mm fans for the intake. The reason: Akasa Viper 140mm fans (Link) I use two for my intake and the are whisper quiet. The Vipers have really good static pressure, move a lot of air, and did I mention that they are whisper quiet?

    Re: I7 build

Attachment 7782x 120 mm fans on cooler, 1x 120 fan front and rear, 2x Evga GTX 465 factory overclocked video cards in SLI mode, 2 Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB hard drives, 1100 watt Apevia power supply, Coolermaster V6GT cpu cooler with 2x 120mm fans, and of course I7 2600K cpu sitting on an Asus P8Z68-V/Gen3 motherboard. All inside a Thermaltake Black Shark full tower case all built over time from parts. If you notice it is already set up to put in 2 more hard drives if needed. You can also see why a water cooling system can no longer be mounted on the base of the case. In the Extreme setting the cpu is running at 4430.5 mhz.

Attachment 779Not a very good picture but it shows core temp running at extreme in bios. All cores in the mid 50 degrees.Fans are on silent mode. I will try some mild overclocking in a few days.
