Not that I am unappreciative of this gift but I was hoping for Japanese twins.

    I would prefer a set of identical triplets. About 5'-7", 115lbs, 38C-24-32.

Wow, you're not hard to please are you... lol

Changing topics however, seems like that 5870 is cranking out some good credits. I don't have that GX280 running any CPU projects either, it seems to slow it down when I do.

But on another note, perhaps these GX280's aren't as worthless as I said and they can be redeemed. I found a place in town that looks like I can literally buy a pallet of them. Now I'm thinking I might pursue a train of thought with these things and look into building just GPU crunchers.

Nice to see the updates.....I noticed that SMT and Dr. Pop are moving up on me in totals. Looks like I will have to finish the "Submerged Troll" and turn it on full time. I don't think it will turn out the numbers that the other new build's listed will, but it should make it harder for you guys to pass me.

Have you done a cost analysis on that train of thought. My uncle has a GX280 and IIRC they only have one PCIe slot and a power hungry P4.
    Try this on for size:

    Motherboard: MSI 870-G45 AM3 AMD 770 ATX $69.99
    CPU: AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz AM3 Socket $36.99
    Memory: Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3-1333 (9-9-9-24) $39.99
    PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA750 750W $79.99
Case: GIGABYTE gz-ph2a3 Black SGCC ATX Mid Tower $24.99

    Total price before shipping: $252
Note #1: All items except MB include free shipping.
Note #2: For $23 more you up the CPU to an AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 2.9GHz Dual Core.

And I'm fairly use that Regor can easily out crunch two P4 CPUs while feeding two GPUs.

Not yet. I can buy the GX280's for $100 retail. They come with a 305w PSU that would have to be replaced so going your route would be a better idea especially since the GX280 has 1 CPU that doesn't have a lot of processing power. What did come to mind was that this is $100 retail... and I know of one source they are getting them.

What I need to find out is that I think I have an 'in' and may be able to pick these up before they are released for sale to the public. In other words I might be able to pick these up for just a few dollars each.

So your not planning on using the GX280s but your going to sell them? That is what I would do. Put them on eBay as a "Buy Now" auction for like $80~$85 a pop "AS-IS" plus shipping. You could sell a hundred in a week or two.

No... Actually what I have found out so far is when (not just the GX280's but everything else) that we buy from Dell once they are BER'ed (Beyond Economical Repair and removed from inventory) we sell these back to Dell for $2 to $3 a piece.

I was going to try, using some of my connections, good looks and charm, to intercept some of these machines and see if I might be able to give them a refit and turn them into GPU crunchers only.

Re: Maxwell Spanker vs. Silver Hammer vs. Annihilatrix, pt. 2

This weekend I hope to have The Annihilatrix up and running.

While not being able to get to sleep yesterday, I pulled my other Dell GX-280 out and threw in a spare 600w PSU along with my Nvidia card that was gathering dust and got that up and running for a while.

I installed Linux on it (Fedora 14) and started having '90's flash-backs of a time that I belonged to a small group of "believers" that use to run OS/2 WARP 3.0 thinking that it was the true messiah and that Microsoft was going to burst into flames.

After I managed to stop shaking and drooling, I reinstalled Windows XP... Sorry guys, I'm one with Landru.
