Looks like the final numbers are in. The Skylake 6700K beats a 4790K by 9% at stock speeds specifically on compute alone.
And for how much less power?
Definitely uses less power unless you're using the iGPU. Then it uses about the same or a little more. Issue is all the testing i've seen is total system power, which includes an additional 2W from the chipset itself and every test seems to try to max the cores and iGPU, instead of just the cores.
I just ordered a Sager Laptop with a i7-6700k Skylake, they have the CPU's in stock & I should have it in about 3 weeks ... ... It's to replace my 9 year old Q6700 Sager Laptop ...

Nice laptop! Looking forward to your review.
My Laptop will be delayed until about the end of October, I was alerted by Power Notebooks that several new & improved hardware items will become available the middle of October & at my request I asked them to delay the order on my Laptop until those items would be available. One of the Items is a new nVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 (without the M) version GPU for laptops which would bring the speed of the video card up to par with a desktop GTX 980 or very very close to it anyway. A new & faster Samsung 950 Pro PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe M.2 SSD Harddrive is also available ...
I just didn't want to get the Laptop knowing it was already outdated before I even got it ...

Nice! I have a Samsung SM951 NVMe M.2 SSD (the 950 Pro will look about the same) which gets about 2 GB/s write, but that new 950 Pro with 2.5 GB/s is much nicer
I'm holding out for the i7-6700T... looking forward to replacing my old HTPC/Cruncher with something WAY more capable!
So I finally got around to considering my next build thanks to Newegg's persistent holiday emails and I saw that Skylake finally came out not too long ago. So has anyone gotten one yet? Is the price worth it? Should I wait for more versions to come out at better price points? Bla bla bla?
