Three masked gunmen shouting "Allahu akbar!" stormed the Paris offices of a satirical newspaper Wednesday, killing 12 people, including its editor, before escaping in a car. It was France's deadliest postwar terrorist attack.

My condolences to the French community.

Many reacted in anger to the deadly attack at Charlie Hebdo, others by joining the families of those killed, Parisians and the French in their grief. But perhaps more than anything, what's been expressed is solidarity with the satirical magazine's right to air its views.

I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.

The World is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.

Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.

“The so-called paradox of freedom is the argument that freedom in the sense of absence of any constraining control must lead to very great restraint, since it makes the bully free to enslave the meek. The idea is, in a slightly different form, and with very different tendency, clearly expressed in Plato.

Less well known is the paradox of tolerance: Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. — In this formulation, I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be unwise. But we should claim the right to suppress them if necessary even by force; for it may easily turn out that they are not prepared to meet us on the level of rational argument, but begin by denouncing all argument; they may forbid their followers to listen to rational argument, because it is deceptive, and teach them to answer arguments by the use of their fists or pistols. We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant. We should claim that any movement preaching intolerance places itself outside the law, and we should consider incitement to intolerance and persecution as criminal, in the same way as we should consider incitement to murder, or to kidnapping, or to the revival of the slave trade, as criminal.”

Which is to say, of course, that tolerance is illusory. So-called tolerance is simply an inactive state--the dormancy or repressing of intolerance. Intolerance is the only condition that exists at all times, in all places, and in each person.

I almost never agree 100% on any quote but I think most clever men dont either, even when they write them.

Intolerance is a very strange and common thing, sometimes is just a small bit of ignorance other times a bit the animousity for a strange and (even) we dont known why.

This is a topic I started writting long ago but never finished, maybe I will need another life to understand it, maybe is very simple but I have not enough light to get into it.

Dont you ever forget myshortpencil, that we all are sometimes intolerantes to other human beings, you see we are never perfect as we wish.

But I keep wishing all days of my life and keep failling for less and less (I hope) , I really hope, I get there and damn so short is life for so much to learn.

The best thing about SETIUSA family is in general we very unite, yes we are all very different, stand for different values and have different opinions, in conclusion we are a family because that is just like my family.

I know that a lot of people in this team care for each other and that is so good. The best thing one can feel is a true interest of other members about some friends health or problems, of course we all have our preferences, yes just like my family.

If I could I would make an Opera called "The Family", I know it would be a masterpiece and yes once more just like my family or my SETIUSA family.

It is very difficult to me when people just go or vanish and only let behind them a big silence because we always feel we could have done better.

I would like to have more time for the team and of course for my family either.

Swiss Leaks (or SwissLeaks) is the name of a journalistic investigation of a giant tax evasion scheme allegedly operated with the knowledge and encouragement of the British multinational bank HSBC via its Swiss subsidiary, HSBC Private Bank (Suisse).

Investigators allege that 180.6 billion euros passed through accounts held with HSBC in Geneva by over 100,000 clients and 20,000 offshore companies between November 2006 and March 2007. The data for this period comes from files stolen from HSBC Private Bank by a former staffer, software engineer Hervé Falciani, and handed to French authorities in late 2008. The disclosed information has been called "the biggest leak in Swiss banking history".

In February 2015 the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists website released information about bank accounts in Switzerland under the title Swiss Leaks: Murky Cash Sheltered by Bank Secrecy. The investigation was conducted by over 130 journalists in Paris, Washington, Geneva, and 46 other countries.

One thing that I cant understand or believe, is how (around) 50 countries with vey advanced police systems never knew or suspected that was happening.

When the wife of Neil Armstrong sent an email to Allan Needell,, curator of the Department of Space History at the Smithsonian National Air And Space Museum, did not expect the two photographs attached raised such surprise.

It was a McDivitt suitcase and several objects that her husband brought Apollo 11 mission, the first to ensure the arrival of man on the moon in July 1969.

The suitcase contained objects of the Eagle lunar module, the capsule that took Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the lunar soil - Michael Collins was in another capsule, Columbia, that would bring the astronauts back to Earth.

Supposedly, nothing of what was inside the bag should have left the moon. "It's just a bunch of junk that I want to bring back," Armstrong said at the time to Collins in a recorded a conversation.

Two of the objects are particularly important and we can see them on display Outside the Spacecraft: "50 Years of Extra-Vehicular Activity", open until March 8 at the Smithsonian National Air And Space Museum in Washington, in the United States of America.

The first is a camcorder that 16mm would be mounted on the Eagle to record the historic lunar landing.

The second is one of the staples that Neil Armstrong would have to use in the waist to rest the feet inside the Lunar Module.

“The best thing for being sad," replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, "is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.”

“Over the years, I have come to realize that the greatest trap in our life is not success, popularity, or power, but self-rejection. Success, popularity, and power can indeed present a great temptation, but their seductive quality often comes from the way they are part of the much larger temptation to self-rejection. When we have come to believe in the voices that call us worthless and unlovable, then success, popularity, and power are easily perceived as attractive solutions. The real trap, however, is self-rejection. As soon as someone accuses me or criticizes me, as soon as I am rejected, left alone, or abandoned, I find myself thinking, "Well, that proves once again that I am a nobody." ... [My dark side says,] I am no good... I deserve to be pushed aside, forgotten, rejected, and abandoned. Self-rejection is the greatest enemy of the spiritual life because it contradicts the sacred voice that calls us the "Beloved." Being the Beloved constitutes the core truth of our existence.”

Plato considered aging as part of the continuity of life of young people and adults.
"The pleasures of the mind are gradually replacing the physical pleasures, as if it were a release."
Aristotle referred to the last stage of life as the senility, the deterioration of capacity.
In the heterogeneity of aging, we always find examples to illustrate both perspectives.

The celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II will mark the beginning of a new world order. When at Putin's side will be the president of China, Xi Jinping; Iran, Ali Khamenei; Egypt, Sisi marshal; North Korea, Kim Jong-un; Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro; Turkey, Erdogan; and Tsipras from Greece among other leaders of countries like Belarus, which have always been on Moscow side in good and bad times. Obama, Merkel, Hollande, Cameron and many others will be left out, with NATO seing two of its members alongside Putin.

XXI Century Cold War will thus begin officially, although the relations between East and West have never been happier and much less friendly, so the world is not better and we must question whose fault is it before we have to go to war, even if is a cold one.

Moscow wants a new order in Europe, with new agreements on security and conventional weapons, and responds to Western offensive with strategic alliances that can quickly change the balance of power in the world. The most important is with Beijing. It's not just an energy partnership; is a military and political alliance in which the two countries are together in all international theaters. But if Moscow turned to Asia, also not forgotten the Middle East. In Iran and Syria, Russia has returned to Cairo a new old friend. The world is changing.

Dear friends,

The Syrian air force just dropped chlorine gas bombs on children. Their little bodies gasped for air on hospital stretchers as medics held back tears, and watched as they suffocated to death.

But today there is a chance to stop these barrel bomb murders with a targeted No Fly Zone.

The US, Turkey, UK, France and others are right now seriously considering a safe zone in Northern Syria. Advisers close to President Obama support it, but he is worried he won’t have public support. That’s where we come in.

Let’s tell him we don’t want a world that just watches as a dictator drops chemical weapons on families in the night. We want action.

One humanitarian worker said ‘I wish the world could see what I have seen with my eyes. It breaks your heart forever.’ Let's show that the world cares -- sign to support a life-saving No Fly Zone:

“I've always been an ironic dreamer, unfaithful to my inner promises.
Like a complete outsider, a casual observer of whom I thought I was,
I've always enjoyed watching my daydreams go down in defeat.
I was never convinced of what I believed in.
I filled my hands with sand, called it gold, and opened them up to let it slide through.
Words were my only truth.
When the right words were said, all was done; the rest was the sand that had always been.”
― Fernando Pessoa, The Book of Disquiet

“The feelings that hurt most, the emotions that sting most, are those that are absurd - The longing for impossible things, precisely because they are impossible; nostalgia for what never was; the desire for what could have been; regret over not being someone else; dissatisfaction with the world’s existence. All these half-tones of the soul’s consciousness create in us a painful landscape, an eternal sunset of what we are.”

Shiloh
Pittsburg Landing
April 6 - 7, 1862

On the morning of April 6, 1862, 40,000 Confederate soldiers under the command of Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston poured out of the nearby woods and struck a line of Union soldiers occupying ground near Pittsburg Landing on the Tennessee River. The overpowering Confederate offensive drove the unprepared Federal forces from their camps and threatened to overwhelm Ulysses S. Grant’s entire command. Some Federals made determined stands and by afternoon, they had established a battle line at the sunken road, known as the “Hornet's Nest.” Repeated Rebel attacks failed to carry the Hornet's Nest, but massed artillery helped to turn the tide as Confederates surrounded the Union troops and captured, killed, or wounded most. During the first day’s attacks, Gen. Johnston was mortally wounded and was replaced by P.G.T. Beauregard. Fighting continued until after dark, but the Federals held. By the next morning, the reinforced Federal army numbered about 40,000, outnumbering Beauregard’s army of less than 30,000. Grant’s April 7th counteroffensive overpowered the weakened Confederate forces and Beauregard’s army retired from the field. The two day battle at Shiloh produced more than 23,000 casualties and was the bloodiest battle in American history at its time.

Dear friends,

An ambitious project is underway to create the largest environmental reserve in the world, protecting 135 million hectares of Amazon forest. That’s more than twice the size of France! But it won’t happen unless Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela’s leaders know the public wants it. That’s where we come in.

Colombia has just said it is on board. Now, if we create a huge global push to save the Amazon and combine it with national polls in all three countries, we can give the Colombian president the support he needs to convince Brazil and Venezuela. All three leaders are looking for opportunities to shine at the next UN climate summit. Let’s give it to them.

The Amazon is vital to life on earth -- 10% of known species live in this magnificent rainforest, and its billions of trees play a key role in mitigating global climate change. Experts say this reserve would be a total game-changer for stopping rampant deforestation. Sign the petition now, when we reach 1 million signers, indigenous leaders will deliver our petition and polls directly to the three governments:

University of Coimbra celebrates 725 years.

The university was founded, or ratified, in 1290 by King Dinis, having begun its existence in Lisbon with the name Studium Generale (Estudo Geral). Scientiae thesaurus mirabilis, the royal charter announcing the institution of the University was dated 1 March of that year, although efforts had been made at least since 1288 to create this first University in Portugal; it is thus one of the oldest of such establishments in the Iberian Peninsula. The Papal confirmation was also given in 1290 (on 9 August of that year), during the Papacy of the Pope Nicholas IV. In accordance with the Papal Bull, all the "licit" Faculties, with the exception of that of Theology, could be established. Thus the Faculties of Arts, Law, Canon Law and Medicine were the first to be created. It was, however, not to remain in Lisbon for long. In 1308, likely due to problems of emancipation from the Church (relations between the latter and the political power being somewhat strained at the time) and conflicts between the inhabitants of the city and the students, the University moved to Coimbra. This town already had old traditions in education, being home to the highly successful school of the Monastery of Santa Cruz. The university was then established on the site known as "Estudos Velhos", which corresponds roughly to the area where the Main Library now stands.

In 1338, during the reign of Afonso IV, it was once again transferred to Lisbon, from whence it returned in 1354, this time to the centre of the town which was then in full expansion. In 1377, during the reign of King Fernando, it was transferred yet again to Lisbon, where it would remain for over a century and a half. The authorization for a Faculty of Theology probably dates from this period – around 1380. In 1537, during the reign of João III, the university moved definitively to Coimbra, where it was installed in the Alcaçova Palace. The entire university institution, including the teaching staff and all the books from its library, were moved from Lisbon to Coimbra. At the same time, university colleges were created (abolished in the 19th century), a restructuring of the curricula was undertaken and new teachers, both Portuguese and foreign, were admitted.

In the 18th century, the Marquis of Pombal, Minister of the kingdom, made radical reforms in the University, especially regarding the teaching of sciences, in accordance to his Enlightenment and anticlerical creed. During many decades it was the only university in Portugal, since its foundation in 1290 until 1559 (a university in Évora operated between 1559 and 1759), and again between 1759 and 1911 (University of Lisbon and University of Porto were created in 1911). The long history and past predominance of the University of Coimbra made it an important focus of influence in Portugal, not only educational, but also political and social.

Initial steps towards some convergence of European higher education systems were taken with the signature of the Sorbonne declaration by the Ministers in charge of higher education in France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Germany, in 1998, and later, in 1999, with the signature of the Bologna declaration. The Bologna process, aimed at creating a European Higher Education Area by implementing a comparable degree structure, common quality assurance standards and by promoting the mobility of students and faculty members, was a major revolution in Europe's higher education. Globalization, technological change and increased international competition for scarce high-skilled labor highlighted the importance of making European higher education institutions attractive and competitive worldwide. A more integrated European Higher Education Market enhanced competition between European universities—a necessary condition for producing leading-edge innovations and for catching up with the US economy. In Portugal, the University of Coimbra decided to defer the adoption of the new Bologna Process model from 2006 to 2007/2008 (with exceptions authorized for a few programs on which a national consensus for change had been reached among institutions) in order to make the transition maintaining the highest standards of quality and academic integrity. Only in the 2008/2009 school year did the entire university fully adopt the new programs within its 8 faculties.

New Test Lets Women Pick Their Best IVF Embryo

When sperm meets egg not every match is a winning one. That is particularly true in the petri dishes of the scientific dating game called IVF, or in vitro fertilization. For the first two or three days after the arranged coupling, scientists carefully scrutinize the budding relationship for any signs that it has veered off course. Embryos with a good shape and rapidly dividing cells receive high marks and may be selected for implantation in a woman’s womb or frozen for future use. Embryos with poor chemistry, however, are typically cast aside.

Those embryos dawdle or multiply into odd cell numbers—three and then maybe seven cells, as opposed to a healthy two to four to eight progression—and studies suggest those abnormalities may indicate embryos would not be as likely to eventually form a promising blastocyst, a rapidly dividing ball of over 100 cells. By day five that cluster of cells should form a well-defined ...

The AWWA·QG “Progress Eagle” concept plane was “born” like his brother the AWWA·VA “Sky Whale” with the same airplane’s concept, designed for improving the physical characteristics of the commercial airplane and reducing the environmental impact, in the case of the “Progress Eagle” using the future advanced technologies of the 21st century, based in Quantum proprieties (latest advances in many different ambits like, nanoparticles-properties & applications, knowledge about subatomic particles). These concepts are based on the idea of thinking about the future “Super Jets” as if they were complex mathematical equations, with its constant and variable values which ever have a fixed result on a “safe transport”, with high performance and totally environment friendly.
The “Sky Whale” was designed for a closer future, because the technology in which it is based could be feasible to produce in ten years’ time or less, is within our reach!

“The soul of wit may become the very body of untruth. However elegant and memorable, brevity can never, in the nature of things, do justice to all the facts of a complex situations. On such a theme one can be brief only by omission and simplification. Omission and simplification help us to understand - but help is, in many cases, to understand the wrong thing; for our comprehension may be only of the abbreviator's neatly formulated notions, not of the vast, ramifying reality from which these notions have been so arbitrarily abstracted.”

― Bertolt Brecht

“No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee.”

― John Donne, No Man Is An Island - Meditation XVII

“All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first, the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
Then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slippered pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.”

― William Shakespeare, As You Like It

“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear.”

― H.P. Lovecraft

“Nothing can illustrate these observations more forcibly, than a recollection of the happy conjuncture of times and circumstances, under which our Republic assumed its rank among the Nations; The foundation of our Empire was not laid in the gloomy age of Ignorance and Superstition, but at an Epoch when the rights of mankind were better understood and more clearly defined, than at any former period, the researches of the human mind, after social happiness, have been carried to a great extent, the Treasures of knowledge, acquired by the labours of Philosophers, Sages and Legislatures, through a long succession of years, are laid open for our use, and their collected wisdom may be happily applied in the Establishment of our forms of Government; the free cultivation of Letters, the unbounded extension of Commerce, the progressive refinement of Manners, the growing liberality of sentiment... have had a meliorating influence on mankind and increased the blessings of Society. At this auspicious period, the United States came into existence as a Nation, and if their Citizens should not be completely free and happy, the fault will be entirely their own.

In December 1844, it was founded on the initiative of José Bernardo da Costa Cabral, the Company of Public Works, one of the main objectives the construction of a railway between Lisbon and Spain, and a railway and maritime interface in the Portuguese capital ; this season, it would be called Pier of America or Pier of Europe, allow passengers by train from all over Europe direct transfer onto cruise ships bound for América.

The original plan to build this interface defended its installation in Memorial Pier; however, in December 1852, the Thomas Rumball engineer proposed two alternatives, with the casting of Lisbon, or near the Largo do Intendente. Another engineer, Harcourt White also rejected, in January 1853, the option of the soldiers Pier, stating that there was, in that place, enough space to build the station; instead, he suggested that it was located next to the river, after the Church of the Angels in Xabregas where, at that time, there was very clear. An executive committee was appointed to plan the construction of the Lisbon station, which proposed the installation of this building in the area of Obidos Conde Rock, with capacity for passengers and freight; one of the lines continue to the nearby customs of Lisbon, in the Palace Square, where it would be built another estação. The construction of the rail link to Spain started up this year, in order of Fontes Pereira de Melo,

The final draft for building the Memorial Pier was approved by the Government on March 8, 1854; this plan had different railway stations for passengers and goods, workshops for repair, stables to house the rolling stock, and several service roads. For the passenger building, it had already been obtained in 1852 the former Convent of Santa Apolónia but it would be necessary to demolish Arsenal Army, which at the time there was. It began, of course, the construction of a rail link and a marginal wharf for goods to the Customs Lisbon and, for this, need to gain ground on the Rio Tejo.

However, when it opened the first section of the Eastern Railway Track, between Carregado and Lisbon on 28 September 1856, it had not yet started the construction of this station, and the terminal was installed in a provisional building next to the Palace of Coimbra.

The project was carried out by Angel Arribas Ugarte, and the work was conducted by engineer-director, João Evangelista de Abreu, and the chief engineer, Lecrenier. The building was carries out by Oppermann construction company. The station was opened on 1 May 1865. In 1873, enters the service the first line of American cars in Lisbon, connecting the Santa Apolonia station to Santos.

Hosted between 1967 and 1989, the international service TER Lisbon Express, which made the connection between the Portuguese capital and Madrid.

In December 2007, the station was connected to the network of the Lisbon Metro (Blue Line).

The Mayor of Lisbon, Antonio Costa, defended in 2008, the station was to close the railway business and move to serve the cruise terminal.

The Councilman of Urbanism from the Chamber of Lisbon, Manuel Salgado, defended, 'a vision of the future', the closure of the Santa Apolonia train station to make way for a green space that links the Tagus river.

Are you mad Manuel Salgado?

A baby with one year old went blind after being operated at a tumor in the left eye. The medical team, however, and mistakenly operated on him the wrong eye. The incident took place in Mexico, in a medical facility in Obregon. The child, Jonathan Valdez Fernando Ayala, had a malignant tumor in her left eye and could not see.

The child underwent chemotherapy, but the doctor, Armando Cisneros, considered that this was not having any effect and decided that the eye had to be removed. However, a mistake led that the child ran out of the right eye, going blind.

The child's parents are suing the medical staff for negligence and want to be compensated.

The doctor however defended himself saying that withdrew the right eye because he also detected a tumor. Parents do not believe in this theory, since in this case, should have been both eyes removed, something that did not happen.

The Mirror reports that are being made analyzes to ascertain the veracity of such information.

The case has already been reported to the police and an internal investigation is now being carried out.

We have so thoroughly screwed our kids, and their kids, and their kids. Maybe more. It is the largest theft in the history of the world by many orders of magnitude. We are a selfish, selfish generation, living far beyond our means.

The children in Greece are right to be pissed and justified say "no" to shouldering the debt their parents and grandparents created. But that doesn't make the debt go away. Loans must be paid.

Yeah, bankruptcy works for people. But for not nations, or states, and the people that fund them. Independent nations can just print more money, at the cost of currency devaluation. EU members cannot. Just like California cannot print its way out of our debt. Just like Greece. So we (and other states like Illinois and NY) will have to rely on the responsible states to bail us out of our State level debt. Just like Greece.

http://cdn.tradingeconomics.com/charts/united-states-government-debt-to-gdp.png?s=usadebt2gdp&v=201507021606
The United States recorded a Government Debt to GDP of 101.53 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product in 2013. Government Debt to GDP in the United States averaged 60.81 percent from 1940 until 2013, reaching an all time high of 121.70 percent in 1946 and a record low of 31.70 percent in 1974. Government Debt to GDP in the United States is reported by the U.S. Bureau of Public Debt.

The problem with Greece is the origin of the debt. Capitalism is by definition of risk on the loans between the 2 parts, when banks loan money to someone that cant pay don't receive it back. Well that was the problem because the money from Troika was to pay the banks (mostly in Germany and France) and not to Greece. Loans must be paid but when private banks loan money to someone that can never pay, it is their risk, according to capitalism laws.

They socialize the losses and privatized the gains of the banks, no money went to Greece on all this process, anyway this is a most complex issue that is in discussion for very long. If we cant take politics out of economy, it is time to look for a new economics theory because what happens now is not fair and for sure DEMOCRACY is more important than econmy.

For years they’ve poisoned rivers, devastated forests and displaced communities, and now massive companies are rushing to dig up the seabed for precious metals.

Twenty-four people can stop this plunder of our planet’s most fragile places, and they're meeting this week!! The International Seabed Authority normally attracts as little attention as an underwater mine miles offshore, but our community can change that.

A few countries have agreed full or partial bans, and leading scientists just appealed for a freeze on deep sea mining contracts. Let’s amplify their message with a million-strong call, take out newspaper ads to hand deliver to each delegate, then publish their names and their responses. Add your voice and share this widely.

With a $100-million donation, billionaire Yuri Milner plans to revolutionize the astronomical quest to find alien life

Is the cosmos filled with chatty alien civilizations or is Earth a lonely spark of life in a sterile universe? Russian billionaire Yuri Milner wants to know, and has committed to spending at least $100 million to support the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI). Efforts to listen for interstellar messages date back to the 1960s but funding has often proved as elusive as the aliens themselves. NASA’s SETI efforts, which ran from the 1970s to the 1990s, consumed about $110 million across 20 years, according to the agency’s former chief historian, the astronomer Steven Dick, who calls today’s announcement a “sea change” in SETI funding.

Announced today at a press conference in London, Milner’s Breakthrough Listen initiative provides 10 years of funding for what promises to be the most exhaustive and far-seeing SETI program in history when it begins observations in 2016. Breakthrough Listen will be directed by an advisory committee of prominent scientists chaired by Sir Martin Rees, the U.K.’s Astronomer Royal. The program is accompanied by another related effort, Breakthrough Message, devoted to crafting crowdsourced messages from ...

"Send Me An Angel"

The wise man said just walk this way
To the dawn of the light
The wind will blow into your face
As the years pass you by

Hear this voice from deep inside
It's the call of your heart
Close your eyes and you will find
The passage out of the dark

Here I am
Will you send me an angel?
Here I am
In the land of the morning star

The wise man said just find your place
In the eye of the storm
Seek the roses along the way
Just beware of the thorns

Here I am
Will you send me an angel?
Here I am
In the land of the morning star

The wise man said just raise your hand
And reach out for the spell
Find the door to the promised land
Just believe in yourself

Hear this voice from deep inside
It's the call of your heart
Close your eyes and you will find
The way out of the dark

Will you send me an angel?

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

No one knows what it's like
To be hated
To be fated
To telling only lies

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

No one knows what it's like
To feel these feelings
Like I do

And I blame you

No one bites back as hard
On their anger
None of my pain and woe

Can show through

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

When my fist clenches, crack it open
Before I use it and lose my cool

When I smile, tell me some bad news

Before I laugh and act like a fool

If I swallow anything evil

Put your finger down my throat

If I shiver, please give me a blanket

Keep me warm, let me wear your coat

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes.

In the eye of the storm comes a particular law firm - the Mossack Fonseca, a discreet but powerful company based precisely in Panama and the powerful resorted to save their money. Pelo contrário, a própria Palavra que você conhece irá condená-lo: exatamente porque você a conhece e não a coloca em prática.

On the contrary, the very Word that you know will condemn you: just because you know it and do not put into practice.

Jeroen Dijsselbloem is sad. The President of the Eurogroup liked that Portugal had been fined because of two tenths of last year's deficit but he trust that NATO will respond favorably to his email requesting the bombing of Lisbon, Porto and Massamá. "Portugal will stop laughing. Today, at snack time, Massamá will be wiped off the map ", threatens the crazy man.

The ancient city of Conímbriga in central Portugal is one of the best Roman ruins I’ve ever visited. It’s so good I’ve been there twice and been impressed on both occasions. Even my 13-year-old stepdaughter declared, “It was better than I expected!”

Tomar Castle (Christ Convent)

Born from the donation of Waxes Castle and its term to the Templars, by D. Afonso Henriques in 1159. The territory was crossed to the south by the river taking with a fertile valley limited to the west by a chain of high topography of hills. It was one of those hills, overlooking the river, founded by Master D. Gualdim Pais in 1160, the castle and town of Tomar.

The castle consists of a ring of walls surrounding the hill. Two wall curtains divided on the inside into three precincts. In the southern part of the fortress, it stood the village hall, where today is the orangery. To the north, in the highest part of the hill was established military house of the Templars, flanked to the east by the Master's house, the Alcazaba with its keep, and to the west by the oratory of knights, Separating these two precincts a third, the vast yard of the castle, now landscaped space.

Ofuscado Pela Noite

Coloque tua mão, desça-a abaixo do meu coração

Ofuscado pela noite por golpes de luzes mortais
Uma última volta estendendo a mão ao fim
Eu esperei 100 anos nas ruas em preto e branco
Você veio assobiando.

Fernando Pessoa

A morte é a curva da estrada,

Morrer é só não ser visto.

Se escuto, eu te oiço a passada

Existir como eu existo.

A terra é feita de céu.

A mentira não tem ninho.

Nunca ninguém se perdeu.

Tudo é verdade e caminho.

Fernando Pessoa

Death is the curve of the road,

To die is just not to be seen.

If I listen, I hear you walk.

Exist as I exist.

The earth is made of heaven.

The lie has no nest.

No one ever got lost.

Everything is true and way.

OSWALDO MONTENEGRO

pra me fazer aquietar o espírito
e a outra metade é canção.
E que a minha loucura seja perdoada
porque metade de mim é amor
e a outra metade também.

That the force of fear that I have
Do not stop me from seeing what I long for
That the death of everything I believe in
Do not cover my ears and mouth
Because half of me is what I scream
But the other half is silence.
That the music I hear in the distance
Be beautiful, even sad.
That the woman I love will be forever loved
Even though far
Because half of me is to go
But the other half is nostalgia.
That the words that I speak
Are not heard as prayers or repeated with fervor
Just respected as the only thing
What remains of a man flooded with feelings
Because half of me is what I hear
But the other half is what I silence.
That this my desire to leave
Become the calm and peace that I deserve
And that this tension that corrodes me inside
Be rewarded one day
Because half of me is what I think
But the other half is a volcano.
May the fear of loneliness drift away
And that the fellowship with myself becomes at least bearable
That the mirror reflects on my face in a sweet smile
Which I remember having given in childhood
Because half of me is the memory of what I was
The other half I do not know.
May it be no more than a simple joy
To make me quiet the spirit
And may your silence tell me more and more
Because half of me is shelter
But the other half is fatigue.
May art point us an answer
Even if she does not know
And nobody to try to complicate
Because it takes simplicity to make it bloom
Because half of me is audience
And the other half is song.
And that my madness be forgiven
Because half of me is love
and the other half too.
