@ F$ - is this a "smart" install in Windows, i.e. if I have FF 5 installed, can I just download FF 6 and it will update automatically, or will it leave a bunch of "crap" in the registry and all, in which case I should uninstall FF 5 first?

Nope. No worries. The installer is fully aware of previous installs and will uninstall the old version, install itself, import previous settings/plugins/add-ons and do a version check and alert you to any incompatibilities.
Edit: BTW, the FF6 interface is radically different in terms of menu layout & buttons then in versions 3~5. It will take a little getting used to. I installed it on Odin. The install was smooth as silk. Many of my add-ons already had updates for FF6. Since I was on Odin via VNC I couldn't tell if the browsing experience as any faster (as claimed) but it definitely wasn't slower.

I am a Firefox fan. Unfortunately, I have to use IE8 for work which I don't like but that's life.
On a side note... Microsoft is going to move away from ASP.NET???That's priceless. At work we just bought a new Energy Management Software package from a company (that doesn't know what they are doing) which cost us $650,000. The reason I use IE8 at work is because this software won't talk to IE9 or Firefox or Safari which we were told it would. This EMS package uses ASP.NET. ROFLMAO It just keeps getting better all the time.
Please God, all I need is 30 more months...

Will the Gov. ever figure out it needs to run Linux and program all its own stuff?![]()
If they did that they wouldn't be able to hire all the overpriced "engineers" and would have to hire people who actually knew what they were doing. (Definition of engineer....professional procrastinator!)
That of course would save the government money and you know they aren't going to do that.

In my little corner of the Government that I work for that I like to call "Massive Dynamics", in years past we have had some intelligent and motivated employees that were allowed to develop applications that would help streamline and make some of the offices that they worked for more efficient. Once those employees moved on, there was no one to maintain the applications. It was decided that they would no longer allow that and that only outside companies would be allowed to create applications.
The other issue with individuals creating applications is that once you create something, you end up getting "married" to the thing which has nothing to do with keeping it running. Five years ago, I put together a database that allowed us to get off of the paper forms that we were using for audits in our department and it gave us the ability to search and create reports of site problems that we didn't have in the past. This database died a year ago because we have two individuals in our department that do not have an opposable thumb and refused to use it.
One major problem we had with the $650K POS that we purchased was that a particular Director that was in charge of this allowed the Software Company to write their own specifications. During the development meetings, which I attended, I brought up problems with this system that needed to be fixed or changed. I was told in so many words to STFU and mind my own business. Because of these issues, this department has wasted a ton of tax payers money and we didn't get a software package that comes anywhere close to what lower level management and others like myself who are analysis' wanted or needed to do our jobs.
I'll stop with that since I'm starting to get pissed off about the whole thing again.![]()

Looks like FireFox devs are trying to put themselves out of work.
This might be old news to some but honestly, who has the time to keep up?
