OK, but its almost never worked for me and the one or two times it did I ended up with a ton of driver issues and BSODs. Got fed up both times and Nuked the installed Windows and started from scratch.

I've had to do a complete re-install myself before. But once a simple "repair" did the trick. Windows seems to be real picky on how it decides how much trouble to cause you.

I feel better knowing it is not just me that starts from scratch and downloads 150+ updates to Windows 7 SP 1 after a major change to hardware. Could just be wishful thinking, but the boxes seem to be a lot faster after a fresh install of Windows.

Edit: are you saying you do not download 150+ updates but have them saved somewhere?

    Re: Motherboard Choice ???

1 down & 9 to go, took about 7 Hr's but I was dealing with a BIOS that was completely strange to me & a Corsair cooler that I had to pull the Motherboard 3 times to get installed right & a Fresh install of Win 7 but no SP1 yet. The next one should go a lot faster as I now know how the Corsair cooler is installed properly & I won't fiddle around for an hour or so trying to get the Hardware CD for the Motherboard to show up.

The Box would Boot up to the point of going into Win 7 but the a flash of BSOD would show up & it would reboot it's self again. No matter what I did the CD for the Hardware wouldn't come up either, some other garbage would but never the CD. After playing around for an hour or so I just threw the Win 7 CD in and did a re-install of the OS. I've never seen an improvements in time by installing SP! so for now I'll just run it the way it is.

Definitely way faster than the Q6600 that was in it when running POEM, just running at the Stock CPU Speed 3.5GHZ for now to let it break in a little but the times have dropped from around 43-44 Min's to about 25-26 Min's running just 4 with HT turned off. Not quite twice as fast but once I jack it up to about 4.2GHZ it should be twice as fast then. Doesn't seem to like running 8 in HT Mode though, very slow, seemed to run 4 just as fast in HT Mode as when not in HT Mode but when trying 8 it slowed way down. But it only has a single 570 in it, the only other Box I run in HT Mode is my i920, run 8 POEM Wu's in that but it has 2 7970's in it so can't really compare them.

The Corsair cooler H80 works good, about 50c under BOINC Load so that's okay by me, now all I need is a CD with all the SP1 Updates on it so I don't have to spend 4 Hr's downloading over the wireless network out to the garage ...

This is what I was referring to in my last post. I have all but 9~10 updates plus no SP1. Personally I will NOT install SP1 on any of my boxen because of Windows update #KB971033 and a few others. Certain updates are nothing more then M$ spyware so no go. Now if M$ was willing to do a 50/50 share of the profits generated from that spyware, that would be a different story.

Anyhoot, I can DL and slipstream SP1 and add it to Win7 for someone else if interested. Of course if you want to do it yourself then use the RTse7en lite slipstreaming tool (Link)

windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe Will be the 64 bit version of the SP
windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe Is the 32 bit version

The rest are Symbol tables to aid in Debugging if you commonly work with Microsoft to troubleshoot errors.

Don't expect you'd ever have run in to the Itanium version. IA64.

Okay & Thanks Mumps, I'm in the process of re-building the 2'nd Box so I'll go start the Download will I'm re-building. I suspect I'll have to re-install the OS on this Box too, all of them for that matter so I'll try & build the CD once I'm done with the re-build.

Not happy at all so far with the ASRock Motherboard, Overclocks okay or at least it say's it's overclocked but the times for the Wu's are no different, if anything they run slower. I'm just doing this re-build to see if there's a difference in the MBoards. If I get the same results with Overclocking I'm going to try & return all the Boards and get something different. I really didn't want the ASRock but for the Price figured I'd take a chance. I've had notheing but dismal results with every ASRock Board I've had when it comes to OC'ing ...

Dont forget with these new motehrboards when overclocing you have to set the max Wattage for em in two places or the board will down clock the cpu..
