I just hit 5K in Neurona, slow going on that one.. this reminds me though, I've just added a '1st to 10,000' in the new project Timeline (http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=timeline&proj=nah) page. Neurona is a little sparse as you imagine with a new project but you should get on the list now.. Hoping to expand these at some point. A lot of them are manual entries which I've started doing with Primegrid (http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=timeline&proj=pgrid). I should ask for volunteers to get/input the data :)

Well Finally

BOINCstats reached the 5,000,000 mark with almost 7K to spare, during its "afternoon/evening" updates.

2,777,704 credits are from PG and 2,020,604 of that is PPS Sieve.

I was waiting for the PG credits to clear. My total work for today's update report was only 1,088, but 14K came in after that report update and will be on tomorrow's report.

At this rate, it will be December or later before I reach my next million mark. 5-6 months to make a million on CPU-ONLY crunching power for only 4 cores running.

I have too many thinks on my to-get list before I can buy a replacement GPU that died early last year with 3-4 months of low end crunching before it died. Now that model is not supported. I do not know if I will buy an ATI or CUDA, but ATI cost less per credit crunched yet it seems to do the least amount of projects.

How many years did you take to do 1 billion?
How many cores?
Which GPU cards and how many?
Which projects/sub-project gave you the best credits for CPU and GPU work?

I would love to know how long it would take me to do a million with a $100 GPU card [and which type would be best for that price]. It takes 4 to 6 months to do a million with my 4 cores and no GPU. It would be great to do a million [or three] in a month or less.

I have had the 4-core desktop since March 2010 and that gave me 5K to 20K daily instead of 300 to 900 per day with what I had before that.

I would love to be able to be in your shoes to crunch at your rate. I am on a very fixed income [low income sources] so it is hard to add cores or make my equipment better.

You could probably get 200k credits a day with one of the $100 nvidia cards on PG if you were so inclined. Personally, I'm trying to grow my cpu's so I can work on more projects.

My problem is, except for my 4-core desktop [Phenom 9650 @2.3 GHz], my other cores belong to very over heating prone laptops and very slow/old single core machines. The laptops [one loaned out] have OK cores but tend to over heat to the point they shut themselves down. Even with external fans to help the air flow, they still overheat every day or two. I do not want to burn them out. The desktops are slow P4 or P3 type of machines that do very little towards my daily credits. So only my 4-core desktop is running, with several extra internal fans and an eight inch whole in the side of the case where a fan [now dead] was located. I run 64-bit Ubuntu on that quad, and keep it lower than 90% CPU usage to help with the heat and help me do my other work at the same time.

Is the Nvidia giving more credits than ATI? Do you find more projects for Nvidia than ATI? I would like to find an up-to-date list of GPUs that would work, since my current list is well over a year old and most of the cards are no longer made.

Until I get more good/powerful cores or a GPU card, I will be CPU-only crunching on this default desktop.

I am still hosting a 2-core team machine, which is under my desk, since I have free utilities in my handicapped housing. So if I do get any better machines, I do not have to worry about power. Heat, on the other hand, is a real problem over the past month. Sometimes I can barely keep the place cooler than 90 degrees [outside temps have been on-and-off records] even with an air conditioner going full blast. Can run more cores in the winter, since I can turn down the heat and let the desktops heat the place.
